Certainly channels 4 and 5, provided you can receive freeview where you live.

Not everyone can though - our reception will cease due to trees we can't chop down.

According to the Freeview site I can't get freeview, because my local transmitter is ananlogue only. However I put up another aerial and pointed at another transmitter. Absolutely useless for analogue signals dut I do not get some Freeview channels. All of the BBC and ITV ones which is fine by me.
Obvioulsy this is only of any use if you can "see" another transmitter.
We all evolve - get on with it
  • can anyone please show me pictures of what this item looks like, so I know what I am buying? I went there yesterday, and saw a big sat dish, but did not know what other stuff had to buy with it, or does it come complete in one box? Sorry to be dense! Look forward to a reply - cheers guys

  • I'm a complete dinasaur when it comes to modern technology.
We've moved and now have a satelite dish and wires, but no box.
We've been told about freesat, but Sky want £150. to instal. Can
we do anything using their dish and another box. I'm clueless.

    Yes,

go to ebay, look for digibox, pay about £20 for one. Plug it in... Watch Tv. It's that simple. Personally I don't know what the lidl fuss is about. This is the normal price for this type of system. You can get a FTA system for under £100 retail with the dish!

I know quite a bit about this stuff as I have run a 1.2m motorised system for 8 years or so picking up a whopping 7000 channels... Boring life eh and i hate TV!
  • I was thinking of getting one of the Lidl kits but am not sure if I need one. I already have a sky dish and box which was installed over a year ago. However, after the year was up, I decided that Freesat would be fine so I cancelled my sky subscription. Everything worked fine for 2 weeks but then it stopped working and says "no satellite signal being received". It has been like this for weeks. I plugged a friend's sky box in but that wouldn't work either so I think it must be the dish that is the problem.

I don't fancy paying an engineer a call out fee for fixing what appears to be a problem with the aerial. Has anyone any ideas what the problem is and how I could fix it, or would I be just as well buying the set from Lidl and installing that instead?

    All help gratefully received:confused:

Hang on a while and Sky will try and tempt you back with offers of a new box and dish. I did this years ago, as I had served my 12 months contract they did not tie me down for another 12 months. I cancelled after a month and kept the dish and receiver to watch freeview channels.

    Hey guys and girls,

I have a quick question, as I don't have a clue about Satellite TV. I'd like to pick up TV channels from abroad, but I don't wanna pay a fortune, yet I don't wanna pay pittance for something that's only gonna give me a handful of stuff. What are the different types of dishes etc? and what should one look out for? does greater width mean something? because what's the difference betweeen an 80cm and 120cm dish? and what is the astra sattelite and the lyngsat and stuff? and stuff like hotbird. (sorry if it sounds stupid but I really don't know a thing about satellites, I'm more of a digital, computer person :rotfl: lol) ps its analogue right??

I popped into my local Lidl today, and they had 80cm dishes for £14.99. I'm sceptical of course as to the quality and usefullness of this particular dish..

I'm sure that the Lidl £60 dish is a bargain, but for someone who actually wants foreign channels aplenty, and is willing to spent a little bit more to get more, is this the right choice??

    Many thanks!!

Could just be the wind moved the dish. If safe to do so, loosen the bolts at the back of the dish(just enough to move the dish ) and with a friend moving the dish a little at a time whilst watching the signal strength meter in the Sky setup menu. You should see the level move up and down. Stop when the level is as high as you can get it. Start by moving the dish from side to side and when the level is at its highest move it up and down until you get a (hopefully) better level.

Another problem could be a rusty dish or water in the LNB. Just noticed youve only had the dish up a year or so, so shouldnt be rusty. However there could be water in the LNB or cable. LNBs from Lidl should do the trick (if not someone on here will soon put me right;) ) Easy to change, just make sure you get proper amalgamating tape to seal it, insulating tape WONT do!

Hope this is of some help to you. Good luck.

P.S DONT TAKE RISKS!!! Its only telly.
  • I have one of these which I bought from lidi last year. Only set it up once and it was ok. If anyone is interested in buying it i live in dewsbury west yorkshire. It would have to be pick up only. Still have reiciept for 59.99, dated 1-09-05. It is just gathering dust and i would accept any decent offer.
    Yorkshireterr,

I live less than 10 miles from Dewsbury (Brighouse) and I may be interested in your dish. Do you know what channels it picks up (channel 4? channel 5?)

    Thanks
