I was so annoyed with google uk messing about 12.gif But I found a way out. Set the home page tab as https://www.google.com/ instead. It's plain and simple.

eta: just seen the OP suggesting the same :o

I suspect it's their way of making us environmentally aware; sort of campaigning you could say. Just that they, like all extremists, do so annoyingly and not imaginatively. I'm still angry that I wasted good part of the morning trying to remove it. grr.

Use https://ssl.scroogle.org/ or http://noscript.net/ (firefox users), https://www.google.com/webhp?complete=0 workaround probably won't last long, unless they bow to pressure and provide a wallpaper=0 url.

    adblock "http://www.google.co.uk/images/background/*"

though the text may be hard to read as they adjust the font etc to be readable with the background

I am using bing today - can't put up with the eye shattering google pictures. Can't they just stop phaffing around with logos ... and now whole background.

Approach her; adore her. Behold her; worship her. Caress her; indulge her. Kiss her; pleasure her. Kneel to her; lavish her. Assert to her; let her guide you. Obey her as you know how; Surrender is so wonderful! For Caroline my Goddess.

Why not use the about:blank 'home page' and add the Google toolbar?

    No trees there!

Coz my home page is meant to be google.co.uk and not a blank screen - and I do not like tosh like toolbars.

I had these awful images yesterday but they have disappeared today. Maybe it encouraged people to log out to avoid them rather than being an attraction.
