They change the logo according to current events and historic dates, so what's the big deal about them changing the background.........??

:beer:I just checked, and the only bottle of wine in my house is still in the fridge!

On the Google page background I had to enable Javascript to see it - so if like me you're browsing in Firefox with No-Script turned on then there's no background picture to worry about anyway.

Just opened browser to find a slap of trees on my google.co.uk page.
With no obvious way of getting rid of them.

So I simply changed my homepage to Google.com immediately.

Hopefully everyone else will do the same and Google'll discover their stupidity and revert back to a basic search page.

Wallowing in their own arrogance, they've forgotten one of the main reasons they took that huge share of the market in the first place. An almost empty landing page... (compared to the obese front pages of MSN and Yahoo)

So, to display your anger at Google, you've changed to....errrrr......Google?

    That'll show em!

The point of this being, of course, that Google knows far more about you when you are "logged in". It makes money in leveraging this information so they'd like you to be logged in all the time,
Yes, I think that's why they changed Youtube recently so you need to login with a Google account now which you link with your Youtube account. The problem there is if you have more than one Google account like me, and you happen to be logged in to one that isn't linked to your Youtube, you have to log out of it (which means bye-bye Gmail tab... no more email checking...) then log in again with the right one. Such a backwards step for usability.

I didn't like the fade-in and I don't like these new backgrounds either (choosing the white background doesn't even make it look normal :(), they should keep it simple and not break what isn't broken.

You could always use Scroogle: http://scroogle.org/
