Hi everyone
I first posted last year when I was just sorting out a DMP and the support I received was wonderful, I was in a very dark place but you all help me put the light back on. We've been on the DMP since last November and everything has settled down more or less and I thought they had all stopped interest. One of our creditors is a Halifax Credit Card who said they had to charge minimal interest but the December & November statements had no interest added so I very stupidly thought they had decided not to add any interest. However, today I've checked my on line statment and they have added interest for December and January at £82.00 per month. Bearing in mind our payment to them is £95.00 we are only paying £12.00 off the debt!! RBS and MBNA have stopped interest so this is pretty unfair to all parties so my question is has anyone had any luck in getting a creditor to back track once they have decided to put the interest on.
All input appreciated. Thanks a lot in advance.0 -
Sadie, a couple of ours with the same creditor are doing exactly the same, sent them a letter this week asking them to consider freezing the interest as although we are paying some off each month the interest that is being added nearly cancels this out..good luck0

Hi Sadie
Perseverance is the answer! Some creditors will play ball much quicker than others but most will come on board and stop interest and charges in the end, either that or pass you over to DCAs who can be easier to deal with in many cases. It may be worth writing to them again though.Debt free Olympic Contender # 134DMP Mutual Support Thread member # 250DMP March 2010 [STRIKE]£9786 [/STRIKE] now £9900 -
SadieM,
We also started back in Nov. Halifax has stopped the interest (for now, bit worried after reading your experience!), but Barclaycard are still charging some interest. It feels pointless writing to them tbh, as we've sent all the CCCS stuff four times now and still they don't acknowledge any contact. Sadly they make up a third of my OH's creditors.
There is a template letter somewhere around here for asking them to stop the %0 -
Hi,
OH and I are in the process of setting up a DMP with CCCS - rather scary but better than worrying about it all. Does anyone know if we can set our first payment date with CCCS? We want to start in April - definitely can't start in March as we have an unauthorised OD which will be cleared when we get paid, but will leave us rather short for the month.
What can we expect? I don't want them to call me at work - one or two have done this in the past, each time I have told them not to - as I have no privacy to take calls.
We have a lot of debt to clear, and lots of creditors which is a bit scary. At the moment our DFD is likely to be July 2016, although I would like it to be much sooner!:(:(:(:(:(:(:(:(:(:(:(:(:(:(:(:(:(:(:(:(:(:(:(:(:(:(:(:(:(:(:(:(:(:(:(:(:(:(:(:(:(:(

Hey Flash-bang. We set our first date with CCCS, well actually they suggested and we agreed as it gave us enough time to 'rescue' the necessary DDs and get my OH's pay into the new bank account. I think they're flexible on starting dates.
Not sure if you were referring to CCCS calling you at work...? I'd say we'd found them incredibly discreet, when they've phoned the house they've asked if it is ok to talk at that moment. We actually tend to keep in touch with them via email - which is bloody handy.
We've found setting up the DMP, while a little chaotic at the start, absolutely the best thing to do - the stress it has lifted from us is amazing, just wish we'd done it earlier!
We too have a lot of debt and a very, very distant DFD.....0 -
Thanks for the reply - I was more worried about creditors calling at work. I have had 3 or 4 calls and one letter claiming that I lived there! I do work long hours but that it ridiculous - the address should have flagged up that it was not my house and we are on the electoral roll anyway.

2 more creditors have frozen interest and charges which now means 5 out of 9 have done so. However having read the above comments about halifax I'm starting to get worried. Also haven't heard from lloyds, egg or santander. Will they contact us to accept(or decline) our offer of payment?0

To be fair Halifax have been one of my best creditors to deal with. I keep quiet as I seem to be in the minority!DMP mutual support thread No: 2430
