Just dropping by to say hello to everyone and hope that you are all coping and getting on with life:)
Barclaycard/Mercers are relentless with phonecalls to my OH (who just ignores them) but he has had a letter today from Mercers asking for the arrears to be paid and stating that he hasn't made any payments for 3 months so they MAY send a debt collector round to the house. They have also offered some sort of BOGOF i.e. make 2 months payments and they will credit the third?? I have written to Mercers pointing out that he has in fact made an intial token payment followed by reduced payments from CCCS. I have also asked that they make contact in writing.
I'm going to send the letter recorded delivery on Monday. Whoever said that they send letters out to coincide with the weekend so you can't contact anyone was right!!
Once again I am in debt (but for the right reasons:o) to this forum as normally I would be clinging to the rafters on receiving a letter threatening someone coming to the house!!
Take care everyone

Thanks for the kind message.
Not sure what was going on yesterday but today I am back to my usual self and positive again!
Don't think going the whole day without anything to eat (forgot my lunch and I am determined not to spend money not allocated in my budget) helped.
Plus seeing those miners in Chile today finally getting rescued sort of puts my own problems into a very sharp perspective.
Best

Yes, us ladies don't function so well with low blood sugar! I buy whatever cereal bars are on offer so at least I can have one with a cup of tea, and feel somewhat human again.
Wasn't the miners story brilliant:T

I'm starting my maternity leave today and about time too!
I have a telephone review with Payplan next Thursday after 1 year on the plan and things have been running well for the most part.
I was hoping we'd be able to scratch about and keep up our monthly repayment without having to lower it, but I now realise that this is probably quite a foolish thing to do.
So I've decided that when I speak to Payplan I will tell them that obviously, I'll be on a reduced wage. Effectively, we'll be around £600 per month worse off for the six months I'm off work.
I'm just so worried that the creditors are going to get nasty again, after everything's run so smoothly, and obviously with a new baby to look after, I'm not sure I'd cope with the phonecalls, etc. I didn't cope very well when the plan started so God knows what I'll be like without sleep, etc!
I briefly spoke to Payplan last week and they said that creditors tend to look sympathetically upon maternity leave as it's an indisputeable slash of wages.
It doesn't stop me worrying though
ANY HELP AND ADVICE ON THIS WOULD BE REALLY WELCOME!!
Many thanks, CC xx
No, no, missus, no worrying! You have enough to be going on with!
I was really worried about my first annual review with PP, and ended up £50 a month better off. It seems (to me) that they are quite tough at the beginning, the lady I first dealt with was Eastern European and just kept saying "not allowed"!. I think that one year in, you are showing commitment to paying it all back, and surely creditors must see that. Try to enjoy your Maternity Leave and maybe the shopping forum would help in planning food to freeze, etc, for when the little one comes along. I'm saying that because when I had a newborn my hubby lived in the Chippy!!
All the Best,

Yup, yup scary ain't it???But, as you know, count the may and might and could happen contained in the letter. If (and it's probably as rare as hens teeth) that a debt collecter did darken your doorstep there are extremely strict rules to protect you.
I'm sure the calls are a pain but they will stop eventually.
So glad you have been helped and reassured on this forum. I've been around a while (both in years and DMP terms) but there is always something new to learn and folk willing to advise. I too am grateful for all the warm support and advice I have found here.
Have a good weekend everyone x

As my son would say 'whatever' - just happy to be here.

I have advised my creditor of the situation, but they are chasing me for £400 arrears on a loan for £11k and threatening to offset from one of my accounts with them that is not in arrears. I am making online payments to them for variable amounts as my income varies weekly (in temporary employment, only paid for the hours that I work).

Hi
Not sure from from your post quite where your debts lie, but in order to prevent your debts being 'offset' you need to open an account that's independant from your creditor. Even if you are not in arrears with one part of the financial 'family' they can close ranks and take money from a related 'family' account.
At the worst you could be left with no money to live on, if the creditors chose to plunder your account.
Don't mean to be a wet blanket but would look again at where your debts lie, and open an independant account.
Keep posting here and we all will try to help and advise.

Hi Twithead, I have opened a seperate account for wages and TC to be paid into and dd to go out of, this account is with HSBC.
I previously had a loan and 2 overdrafts with Lloydstsb. as my overdrafts are beneath their limit, they will plunder those in order to re-coup the arrears for the loan.
Its a bit frustrating really, 1 step forward and 10 steps back. Trying not to let it get on top of me.Nothing is so fatiguing as the eternal hanging on of an uncompleted task

It's always so difficult at the start. You know you're doing the right thing, but it all feels like a mountain of hassle for very little result to begin with
Go with the flow, deal with issues as they arise, keep all records and paperwork. Soon it will settle.
You'll know then that you've taken control of your finances. You're doing alright!
