Yes I keep getting these. Clearly some dodgy overseas outfit that will disapear eventually. I've been thinking of a series of answers to give them. Surname - Simpson. First name - Bartholomew. Injured in a accident - where do i begin. etc etc.

  • I've just had another phonecall from these people yet again.. this time from 'KEVIN'.

I asked him repeatedly who he worked for and he repeatedly told me he would take my number and name off the list... I wasn't happy with this since they've been harassing me for more than 2 weeks now and the other day even threatening to carry on the harassment until I completed their survey! In the end he gave me these details:

    Tele Prospects Limited

    Head Office
    Ground Floor, West Wing
    Waterloo House,
    31 Waterloo Road
    Wolverhampton
    WV1 4DJ
    Telephone : 01902 710 101

^ I don't know if anyone would be intrested in the details but I thought I'd let you all know:mad:

The only way to deal with these people is NOT to talk to them. The more you engage in conversation, the more they will ring you, winding you up until, in anger, you let slip some vital information they are seeking. They are scammers who are trying to steal your identity or canvass you for a service you don't need but which will cost you money to try out. They will also sell your number and details on to other similar companies because you are "chatty" and respond to this type of approach.

As soon as they say who they are, put the phone down. If you have CLI, still pick up the phone - if you don't they will assume you work in the daytime/evening and will start ringing you at really odd hours.

The only thing that wastes their time (as opposed to them wasting yours) is people who don't talk to them. If you don't talk to them, the frequency of the calls will slowly diminish until they disappear.
  • im getting so fed up with nationwide survey im getting calls almost daily now and have resorted to giving them abuse down the phone swearing a lot usaly gets rid of them prety quick but there gotta be someone we can all report this too friday i had 2 calls from them one in the morning and one in the evening
  • there are 2 others going around 2 1 claiming to be from bt and one about problems with your computer and them wanting remote accses to fix the problem know of 4 other ppl who have had tht one
  • tht the second call today im gettiing fed up anyone managed to get an email addy for em if u do post it and im gonna spend a day going round the net and signing them up to evey peice of junk mail i can find and get a few of my geek mates to do the same if i can get enough of us i might be able to crash thier server
  • I just got two phonecalls from them within half an hour of each other. The first one claimed there was a problem with my computer, and then I realised they were a scam and yelled at them for five minutes before slamming the phone down. Another bloke, 'Damian', rang back claiming to be nationwide surveys a few minutes later. This time I pretended to be meek and mild, and discovered they know my name, phone number (obviously) and address! I asked where they got the details from and they just kept saying 'nationwide survey'. I said I was very scared that they knew all this because I was ex-directory, and then the bloke said sorry, thanks for your time, and hung up.

I AM ex-directory, I've only been living here for a few weeks, and haven't even learnt my phone number yet. The ONLY people who know it are my telephone company, and my mother! I'm actually quite frightened by this, because I know that no company has my details to pass it on, so where the heck are they getting it from?!

Next time they call I think I'll try the 'someone's at he door' tactic.

You are not following my suggestion earlier - the more you talk to them the more they will ring you - you've just proved it by swearing at them down the phone and then getting more calls - if you talk to them, they will carry on ringing you. If you email them, they will have your email address as well!

    Harrietgeek:
By talking to them, you have just confirmed to them that they DO have your correct name, address and phone number - up to that point, they were probably just phishing from information received elsewhere but were ringing you to get confirmation. They now have it.

I've just had these Nationwide cretins on the phone. Interestingly they were clearly working from extremely old data because the name they asked for "Am I speaking to Mr X" was the previous owner of our previous house (we moved the phone number when we moved). Mr X died some years before we bought that house in 1998, and we moved 4 years ago - the post code they quoted was also the old house code. I told them that I was on TPS, that they had given me extremely old data and I wasn't therefore prepared to talk any further with them.

  • I had Kevin too. After much persuasion, he told me his name was Chuan, again from Nationwide surveys in manchester. I am from quite near there (he is, obviously, not) so I asked whereabouts. He got stroppy. Mind you, he was stroppy before that. My standard response is to get them off script and never let them settle. He told me all of my details (name, address, postcode) and I (wrongly) confirmed them. I never will again. He asked for my electricity and gas supplier (after saying that he would not ask for any personal info) and I said I would not give it to him. He repeatedly asked and i repeatedly refused. He told me that if I completed the survey then my number would be deleted and i would never hear from them again, but if I didn't i'd get more calls. I still refused. I gave him the address of Nationwide surveys in the US (I assume it is the parent company - I was at my PC at the time) and he got a bit rattled and eventually hung up. Mind you, the bit where he shouted at me "Its me doing the survey, not you!" was actually quite funny.
