Hi,
I'm not sure if this is the correct section to ask so sorry if it's not.
I've just had a call from what the woman said at the said Nationwide Surveys.
I'm with the Nationwide so thought it was something to do with them.
She told me my surname and initial and my home address and number and asked me for my name. My initial is T so I was worried at this point as she didn't have an English accent so I told asked who she was and who she worked for again. She said Nationwide Surveys and I'm not telling to sell you anything etc so I thought ok.
She asked my name I told it her but she spelt it wrong so I thought leave it anyway then she asked my date of birth.
I told her I wasn't happy giving her it and asked what her name and number was. She said she would give me the number at the end of the survey. I asked for the name and company name.
She put me on hold for about four seconds and said..
My name is Abbie Parker and I work for Nationwide Surveys.
I can tell you now her name wasn't Abbie Parker and I said sorry I'm not prepared to give you my details and she said ok and hung up.
Has anybody had anything similar?
Thanks

Any CLI on the call?Time has moved on (much quicker than it used to - or so it seems at my age) and my previous advice on residential telephony has been or is now gradually being overtaken by changes in the retail market. Hence, I have now deleted links to my previous 'pearls of wisdom'. I sincerely hope they helped save some of you money.0

Has anybody had anything similar?
Yes, but not too often thankfully.
The conversation usually lasts less than 10 seconds because I say I don't do surveys and say goodbye. Occasionally (if I'm in the mood) I'll point out my rate for answering survey questions is £50 per hour with a minimum of 1 hour and the money upfront. Mostly they take this on the chin and I have to resort to tactic 1!0 -

Just had the call again but it was a male this time and he said Hello is this Mr... and he said my surname and I said No and he hung up!JustPassingBy wrote: »Yes, but not too often thankfully.

Good idea
My favourite is saying 'Sorry can you hold on a minute somebody is at the door'
Put the phone down on the side and usually after ten minutes they have gone0 -

I like this tactic, just yesterday I had a call from Gallup, when I asked how long the survey was it was 18 minutes, I said no thanks, but the £50 per hour sounds like a good wheezeEight out of ten owners who expressed a preference said their cats preferred other peoples gardens0 -
I have just received a call from the above. This is the second time this week. Like many of you she was able to tell me my surname, address and postcode. I told the lady that I was about to head out and did not have the time to complete a survey and this was the second time I had received a call this week.
She went on to say very abruptly that this is the first time that they had contacted me, i confirmed what the call was about and then went on to say that she may not have contacted me but one of her colleagues, as I had received a call.
I then again told her that I was about to head out and did not want to complete a survey, I asked her to remove my contact details from the system and she said how she would definitely not do that. She then went on to tell me how "unstable" I was and again that she would definitely not be removing my details from the system. Her tone and her attitude was extremely in appropriate how dare she tell me I am "unstable" and argue with me because I would not answer her survey. When I asked to speak to her manager, she hung up the phone. After calling 1471 and taking down the number to return the call the number is coming up unrecognised. How are these people? How do they get our details? My mother is ill and I do not want her having to deal with people like this!
Does anyone no anything about these people and how you can contact them and put a stop to this?0 -
I also just had a call from them. Well, 2 calls actually. The first call consisted of me saying hello, hello, hello to dead air for several seconds, then when i tried to cut the call off, it wouldnt disconnect! Eventually a female came on the line, so I told her I wasnt willing to do a survey as she had kept me waiting too long, and hung up.
She then rang me back and in a very aggresive manner, kept saying this isnt a sales call, so why was I rude and hanging up on her! I asked where she was ringing from, and she first said nationwide surveys in manchester, then when I said i wanted an address for the company, she said 'we are in london - cant give you the address'. At this point when I was asking for the company details, she said 'why are you so rude dear'. when I pointed out that she was the rude one for ringing me back, she said 'oh shad up, shad up'! At which point I terminated the call!
The funny thing is, I don't mind doing genuine surveys over the phone, and would probably have done so if she wasn't so rude!
Have tried to find contact details for the company, but not successful so far.0 -
A possible response to this type of aggression from cold callers is to say "I am in charge and you are going to hang up. You will obey this command and accept that I am your superior" and then stay on line until they hang up. Think about what they are going to have to do to defy you....Hi, we’ve had to remove your signature. I have been getting these calls for the past 2 weeks now. I've just had another now, and they did actually hang up after the 2nd time of me saying that I wasn't interested.
However, last week I had all the questions about my name, date of birth and then asking me about changing my gas/electricity supplier. I told them I am about to move (which is actually true). Then they went on to ask if anyone in the house had had an acciden tin the past 6 months. At that point, I said I didn't want to answer any more questions and after arguing my point a little longer, I hung up. The phone rang again straight away so I just picked it up and put it back down again. (every time it comes up as International). It rang again and the person identified himself as the supervisor. He said he understood that I didn't want to switch gas or electricity supplier, but would I please answer the question about having an accident in the past 6 months. He was incredibly insistent and in the end I cut him off mid-sentence.
Unforunately, that hasn't been the end of it. They rang again the following day, 4 times. They rang again over the weekend. And they have just rung again now. I'm not sure what else to do. None of the people I have spoken to are British. They are pushy and rude. And I am getting fed up of the continuous calls (this last one was 5 minutes ago 8.30pm).
Any advice, apart from leaving it on the side once I've answered it? I really don't think that will get rid of them anyway.0 -
Hey guys I literally signed up because of this post.. although I can be found lurking around here weekly lol!
I've had enough now these guys have been ringing me everyday for two weeks. Tonight they rang again (about 5 minutes ago) and I'd had enough and said "How many times do I have to tell you before you stop ringing me?" he (Kevin - his name really isn't kevin trust me!) then replied "We will do this again and again again , so you might as well get it over and done with now... or we will keep ringing and ringing and ringing".
Cheeky........ Surely this is harassment?:mad:0
