As the OP hasnt been back on, we can assume it was a serious problem in the ebd and had total brake failure and are now in a river somewhere...

...but they'll get it wrong twice before finding the real fault, or take twice the time to diagnose it and the 'cheaper' labour rate still actually makes for a higher bill. False economy.

i know in wake of the recession the main dealers are having a tough time you obviously work at one (as did i some years back) but you talk rubbish.
a decent indipendant specialist will almost certainly be better than main dealer not to mention considerably cheaper, the main dealers techs are on bonus schemes so are just component changers they will not repair a fault.

to the OP may i suggest you search internet for details of a forum for your make of car to get some advice,i am sure they will advise you steer clear of dealer and recommend a specialist with a decent track record.

What if it's an internally broken wire? Fault with the pad warning wire (on the front) may also create an open circuit, ABS pump may throw the light up...

    Dealer diagnostics

in that case a specialist can check resistence from control unit through ABS sensors approx 0.9-1.1kohm shows a good sensor.pad warning wire causing abs and traction control light to come on????surely that will give a low pad warning rather than asb/traction

I had an AMG Mercedes C class a few years ago with the same problem (only my lights were permanently on)

The dealer diagnostics said it was an ECU failure at £1200 fitted. I reluctantly agreed and they ordered it in from germany. The fitted it and it made no difference. It turned out to be a £2.50 relay had blown...

i rest my case about dealer techs being component changers as on bonus, this proves my point expensive item change just because the diag computer says so and surprise surprise the fault persists.

did MB refund the money you had spent on the part/labour to change this item?

Shows the ignorance. Pad warning wire and ABS sensor are on the same loom on most cars...

Dont tar us all with the same brush. We have approx 1% of customers return to our workshop due to the fault not being fixed 1st time. The idea with the pukka diagnostics is that it shows the faulty component behind the obvious fault. The Benz dealer must have being lazy or greedy, but it's not the norm...

  • a rusty/split toothed ring on any wheel would cause this also, had this on my old clk dealer wanted to change both rear driveshafts at £550 each plus vat and labour. 2 carefully done tig welds and they are still good years later.
