Why are you bringing up the subject of benefits? There has been no mention of them from the OP so it could be safe to assume that none are being claimed or expected.0

I wonder if your principles are as strong as your righteous indignation?
Are you still getting LHA (taxpayers money) paid direct?0

If social housing is not subsidised, why are the rents about half the market rate?BitterAndTwisted wrote: »Yes, you are but your prejudices are showing loud and clear.
Local Authority housing is not funded by the tax-payer, it's self-financing and has been for a long time and the OP and her partner are both income tax-payers and possibly every other adult in their household as well. Therefore the net result to the exchequer could be very positive unlike the negative which you are assuming.0

Perhaps because the actual cost of building and maintaining their properties are not affected by market rates but by the actual costs?0

Totally irrelevant as it is but NO- my tennant has just had payments suspended and is under investigation from LHA (probably as they have found out her OH is living there with her and he is not meant to be but they cannot tell me the reason as that would beach her ''rights'')- so at the moment once again she is living under my roof and working up greater arrears at my expense- and no the council will not let me evict her either as she has a baby under 1 year old . She did the smart thing- got pregnant!!
More fool me for taking the job route.........:silenced:They Were Up In Arms wrote: »I think tabskitten is a crying, walking, sleeping, talking, living troll :cool:0

A colleague has a 2 bed council flat in SE London, the rent is just under £400 per month. The private block opposite the rents are £900 per month. Cannot be the only example.0
