OOH ! lovely recipes thanks everyone.
I know where there used to be a rose hip bush years ago, i think i`ll have a walk sometime soon and have a look if it`s still there/accesible.
If i do the rosehip syrup or jelly do i just cut the little green ends off the fruit or do they need chopping up first?
I`m new to all this but i`m learning fast
ust need to find some more jars.

Try freecyle for jars! I got two boxes of clean jam jars donated
Re: rosehips - I rinse them, pull the green calex off, then chop them roughly (in half or quarters will do, but I think they need to be split so the juices can get out!) - I guess a rough chop in a food processor would also do.0 -
Thanks, i`ll be wandering around in the local fields next Friday to see what i can find
The rose hip bush that i remember is in the middle of a group of fields that used to belng to school, the last time i ventured near it was all overgrown so i hope that i can fight my way through.
I might even try to grow one from seeds
I`m probably being too adventurous but nothing ventured nothing gained

NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO! I've been meticulously saving bottles and jars to do jam and sloegin and even rosehip syrup - DH comes home from fishing and proudly tells me that "Oh by the way I dropped all those glass bottles and stuff off at the bottle bank on the way out - there were so many of them!"...

BTW I've not yet spotted rosehips... or any ripe blackberries here in the Bicester area... I'm hoping I might just not have been looking hard enough
Bit early for sloes though ain't it??? You're not supposed to pick them till the first frost so if they're ripe now I've missed half a season!!!!

EEK sorry to hear about your jars MrsTine, our blackberries are still green locally so i think it will be a while before they`re ready.
The further north the longer we wait unfortunately.
I have to keep a reasonably sharp eye out though as i suspect that many peeps have their beady eyes out waiting for them :rotfl:

the awful new build tesco has a car park with landscaped bits which are full of rosehips - I will be raiding it soon! lol
If tesco have a national landscaping plan (which they may well, corporate image etc) other tescos may be planted similarly - may be worth a look near you!
Free food from tesco! ha ha ha!

Well I've just made some raspberry jam and hoping it's turned out ok  For future reference, how would I get rid of the pips? DH and DS wont eat unless it's seedless

When making blackberry jam/jelly I use a food mill which sort of puree's the fruit and takes out the seeds, but the problem with raspberries are their seeds are very small so difficult to remove.
