hi all, I'm hoping you can help me here. I made Super Jam with cranberries and raspberries today. Boiled for the correct amount of time etc and the jam wasn't setting, so added a bottle of pectin as the recipe suggest. Reboiled and it's still not setting, I even added a bit of sugar to see if that would help. It's now cooling in jars but I'm sure it won't set - is there anything I can do to rescue it?Feb 2015 NSD Challenge 8/12JAN NSD 11/16

forget it; I've googled it now.
Sorry I cannot help - never made jam without sugar.Don't put it DOWN; put it AWAY"I would like more sisters, that the taking out of one, might not leave such stillness" Emily DickinsonJanice 1964-2016

Hello,
Would be grateful if any of you could let me know what the going rate is for a 12oz jam jar and lid. 45p to 60p seems to be the range I have found, but was wondering if any of you buy them for much cheaper than that?
I know I can reuse jars that I have bought full of food, but my query is for bigger batches when I need to buy new ones.
Thanks!
I get my jars from Freegle0 -
I get jars given by friends, would never pay for a jam jar, there are plenty of them around which people give happily away.
A while ago I bought a few kilner-type jars, the ones with the rubber seal, for pickles and fermented veg, from IKEA, the large ones were around £2, but now I have them they will last me a long time, I hope. Finally I'm an OAP and can travel free (in London at least!).0 -

I would definitely put a request on Freecycle, or a local Facebook group. Lots of people are often getting rid of jars and not all councils collect glass recycling so folks are often glad of people coming to collect them.Feb 2015 NSD Challenge 8/12JAN NSD 11/16
