strawberry jam is a difficult one to make as it sometimes doesn't set. The easiest jam is raspberry.
1 kg of frozen rasps
1 kg bag of sugar
put into a large pan and put the lid on and leave overnight till the frozen rasps melt. You can make it from frozen but somehow it doesn't taste so good.Bring the rasps and sugar slowly to the boil turn heat down till it boils gently - a rolling boil for 12 minutes and that's it. You can put it into jars or leave it till cold and put it into clean marg tubs.Won a few prizes at the WI with this jam :rotfl:

I have 2 bm's, one will make cake and jam, one wont so I think you'll need to read your machine manual; if you don't have a manual there is a link here somewhere for tracking down copies
Jam making is quite easy to do without a bm though, I've never bothered to make mine in the bm although it makes a nice cake!
look up Jam making in the cooking index here... don't throw the string away. You always need string!

Hi mumzyof2
Don't panic I am sure answers will be here soon, many OSers are early risers so not about late.
No info in my Panny manual, presuming it doesn't. On the odd time I tried to make jam, I used my pressure cooker pan as it has a very thick base.

Why is it I have less time now I am retired then when I worked?0 -
The Morphy Richards fastbake has a jam making function but I haven't tried it. For more help with jam making have a look at The Complete Jam, Chutney and other Preserves collection

You just need a big saucepan to make jam
Basically you cook fruit, sugar and water together until setting point is reached. When it boils it gets quite fierce and climbs rapidly up the sides of the pan, hence the need for a large pan. If you don't have a big pan just halve quantities.
For a completely bit-free preserve you'd be better off making jelly which is even easier, see here.
Strawberries are very low in pectin so you will need to use 'jam sugar' which has pectin added or lots of lemon juice or a bottle of certo (pectin). Strawberry jam is probably the most expensive kind you can make especially at this time of year when you'll have to use tasteless imported strawberries.
The library will be a good source of recipes. Nigella Lawson's How To Be a Domestic Goddess has a chapter on making very small quantities of preserves which might be useful0
