Ive only made lemon curd so far from this recipe
    http://uktv.co.uk/food/recipe/aid/554788
and that turned out really well, it only made enough for one jar but thats perfect for me on my own, plus if it hadn't of worked I wouldn't have been left with loads of failed curd LOL

But I'm hoping to have a go at other jams this year as I have a MR fast bake with the jam setting so need to test it works :)

I'm not meaning to be rude but ... why bother?

(with the BM I mean, not with HM jam ... which is simply far, far superior to anything you buy)

Just made some plum jam, I did it last year and it was fine but this is not setting great. I'll see what it is like when it is cold but if not I'm sure it will make a fab sauce for ice cream.

If you add too much water does this affect the set? Also made quite a small quanity (3 jars) will that have had any effect - I scaled the receipe down.

  • I'm sorry if this subject has already been covered. I did a bit of a search and found some interesting recipes in the index but i couldnt find anything about elderflower.

I was wondering if it would work to put elderflowers into strawberry jam? The signs are out now for pick your own strawberries in our area and elderflower blossom is out. Would they go together? Has anyone tried this?

Anyone tried this recipe for no-cook strawberry jam (from Good Food website)? I'm very tempted with 500g strawbs making 1.3kg of jam. I've never seen the liquid pectin (Certo) but looking at their website you can get it from Tesco, Sainsburys, Waitrose, etc.

I was looking at this very recipe yesterday and wondering whether to substitute the castor sugar with jam sugar and leave out the pectin.

Then rely on the jam sugar and lemon juice to do the job.
We've got nice Kent strawberries in Tesco at the moment and I want to use those.

Okay, well what if I try the pectin one (if I can get it) and you try the other and we'll both report back?

    Okay then.

I'm willing to have a go!

I will try a very small batch today, using the jam sugar and lemon juice.

Okay but I won't be able to do it until at least the weekend as there's a lot of standing time!

I am at home, so I will have a go.

We are away from Sunday until next Friday, so I'll do mine now and you can do yours using the pectin, when you have the time, post the results on this thread and I will do the same.

I'll look to see what happened to your batch of jam, when I return, as the laptop is not going on holiday as well!
