well just as 4 exits no indication as to which lane you should use on the sign

yes but is exit #2 marked in the 12 o'clock position?

the so-called 12 o'clock rule actually applies to the diagram on the sign, not the road layout, and the two can vary.

You don't need to ask, just have a look using streetview as the photos are upto date :D

The 2nd exit is at 10-11 o'clock and "Straight-on", i.e. the thicker black line is at 1 o'clock.

    I concur.

Tanterton and Village Centre (Tag Lane) are to be regarded as two left turns which can be accessed from the left hand approach lane. Preston (B6241) and Woodplumpton (B5411 other way) are to be regarded as "ahead" and "right" respectively, both accessed from the right hand approach lane.

Always be guided by the signs ;)
  • This reminds me of a story my Dad told me a couple of years ago....

He approached a large roundabout that has 5 exits - he was in the left hand lane and was taking the 3rd exit (at 3 o'clock). A lady in the right hand lane was also taking the 3rd exit, so cut him up going round the round about.

He was very indignant about this, and was going on about stupid women drivers not knowing the rules of the road and being dangerous. Then I told him she was right, and I do exactly the same at that roundabout.

So ensued an argument about how I with only (at the time) 10 years driving experience to his 40 could possibly know better, and he would not have it that he was wrong.

Then again he is always right! ;)
Common sense just isn't that common any more....
