Being 'right' is no consolation when you have a crash you could have avoided had you been watching for idiots
Correct.
We have a similar near us, except it is three lanes on approach. Left lane is 1st exit only. Middle straight on, right straight or right. I always use lane 3 to go straight ahead as I have seen too many idiots who use the left hand lane to go straight ahead. It was changed because the roundabout is only wide enough for two lanes of traffic, but you will always get chancers.
It's not unusual to get some using lane one to turn right!
I've promised myself a £200 van with an RSJ for a bumper. One day I'll spend all day using the roudnabout until I get a chancer and then I'll plant the RSJ into the side of his flash motor:rotfl:0 -
its diagram 877 from chapter 3 of the Traffic Signs Manual if I recall correctly..
I think you'll find that its actually directive 3456752299110 - diagram 877 from chapter 3 of the Traffic Signs Manual is actually signage of a lone man mastubating!:heartpuls baby no3 due 16th November :heartpulsTEAM YELLOWDFD 16/6/10"Shut your gob! The problem is that the arrows painted on the road don't match the highway code instructions for using a roundabout. The practice of !!!!ing up roundabouts in this manner really annoys me. Lanes that gyrate outwards really annoy me to.Happy chappy0

The purpose of allocating the lanes contrary to what the highway code implies is to improve the flow of traffic.
Theres no point in drivers queuing in the left hand lane to go straight on when the right hand lane is empty. In such cases where few people are turning right the right hand lane is utilised as straight on.0 -

Lanes that gyrate outwards (called "turbo roundabouts" in traffic engineer speak) are fantastic and work really well unless they are installed in an area full of old people who can't work them out.
With this kind of roundabout, and decent signage, then people need just enter the roundabout in the correct lane as depicted on the sign and they will be deposited at the correct exit without the need to worry about changing lanes mid roundabout.0 -
