NOOOOOOOOOOOOO!!!!!!!!!!!
However I am chilled, payday on Monday, not paid in then, then DH's balls are in the oven - end of :rotfl:
Not much happening in my world TBH so didn't want to bore you all. Had a lovely weekend - socialised with friends and worked out a lot cheaper than we thought so was a bonus, didn't win the lottery and then family day yesterday in which the poor !!!!!!s were subject to my horrendous cooking...:D
Slight predicament at the moment, FIL who lives away from us and stays quite a lot, has offered completely out of the blue to give OH some early inheritance to build extra bedroom/bathroom on house as it will benefit him and help us. Told us to get some quotes and get back to him. Initially we said no, we think it will be more than he can afford and secretly can't justify paying extra for building work when in debt.
We than had another chat with OH as we thought we'd offended him and decided to get some quotes and go back to him with them. If we had no pride then we could admit we are in debt and ask for money to pay debts off but we don't want to do that. OH is now saying if we get quotes and they are within FIL's budget it will add a lot to the house, benefit his Dad and save us having to do in a few years as planned. But now I'm in a quandry, don't want to get excited incase it is way over FIL's budget as we can't afford to add to it, but then feel bad if we take the money if it is in his budget.
It would definitely make a difference as we would have a spare room and an extra bathroom and would add to the house value and take us out of the pit of potential negative equity.
What to do what to do? I think OH would rather accept money from him to do the house up and pay the debts and I agree, but I'm also anxious if we go ahead with it that it will cost more than we think and we will end up paying money out.
Shall I just get quotes, not get carried away with how beautiful and gorgeous it would look, not think about that extra storage and a room to put OH in when he annoys me and not design it before it's even built .............:rotfl::rotfl:1st debt - Next [STRIKE]£583.32[/STRIKE] [STRIKE]£408.71 [/STRIKE] £0 :j

Shame about the bonus, but at least you have until Monday before OH's life potentially changes for ever!!
Re the extension, in my experience they always cost more than expected - not the building bit, but the furnishings, carpets etc etc.....
Of course, if you do brutally honest figures, then you have more of a chance, just don't skim over things just because they look as though the figures might fit any potential budget.....Successful women can still have their feet on the ground. Yes he is on his final warning and seems to be taking it quite well although he may have to invest in some body armour to protect his manhood if I am let down again!
You share my thoughts, as any extra room would need furnishing etc etc and I don't want to get carried away with it all. Have got a very reliable builder we have used before coming round tomorrow who is a family friend and he is always brutally honest so I will see what he says, as I think it will end up being a big job. I just wish I hadn't had the idea put in my head now!1st debt - Next [STRIKE]£583.32[/STRIKE] [STRIKE]£408.71 [/STRIKE] £0 :j

Your bonus is like my insurance...lol
That's nice of FIL..it won't do any harm getting quotes and taking it from there...it's all very exciting0 -
Hi IMD, perhaps you could ask 3 estate agents for their valuations on the house with the extension you plan? That way you can work out your budget plus contingency.....
I would be tempted to tell FiL the cost will be £77,366.35 :rotfl:
Glad you had a good weekend x0 -
do you think there will be different options for the extra room/space?
ie. converted garage, converted loft, room over garage etc.
what about thinking another way and having one of those self-contained 'buildings' in the garden?0 -
The best option would be to add an extra room to the house and as we live in a dormer we can just take out a bit of the roof - so to speak! We won't need planning permission, just building regs (not that I've been researching or anything :rotfl:) OH was getting a bit carried away last night so I told him it is likely we will come to a grinding halt tonight after the quote and wound him back in. It's always something we've planned to do but not until we're debt free, and I don't want to do it half hearted, on a tight budget and cut corners and regret them later.
Just too much to think about but am just telling myself it won't happen now.
Beautiful day outside, been up for ages, all housework done, washing out and I'm ready for the kids to go to school - if only they'd get up!1st debt - Next [STRIKE]£583.32[/STRIKE] [STRIKE]£408.71 [/STRIKE] £0 :j
