Don't you *dare* send everything you save to charity! Tithe it generously, by all means, but not *everything* Cheery, thats not fair to you. Sorry for the rant-mode, I feel quite strongly about that!
The expenses method of saving is a good'un, that certainly builds up. I'm interested in what the online course is tho .......2023: the year I get to buy a car0 -

Glad you waved Pippi, thought I could feel the air trembling in a stripey way :rotfl: :j :j :j
Goodness KC, I feel well and truly told! :rotfl: I'm just prone to feeling guilty about things like that, that's allAnd it's a nice prompt for me to think about my charity giving too, which is on my goals list for the first couple of months of this year. If you don't mind me asking, what do you all do? I used to have various direct debits to various charities that went out every month, but eventually got into a position where I was only working 2 days a week and just couldn't justify it. And I also realised they were all charities that had stopped me in the street, not ones I'd chosen, so I cancelled them all...
I'm never sure about having little direct debits going out every month, feels like my budgeting is all to pot :rotfl: However, I do realise it's probably more useful to charities to have this rather than one larger donation? Or is it best to just put the money in a pot, for example, and sponsor people as and when, or give when people are collecting? I don't have one specific charity that I feel hugely strongly about - several causes perhaps, but not one charity above others. However, now I'm earning more, I really would like to give something, but want it to be in a useful way.
So - if you don't mind me asking - what do other people do? Or has all charity giving being cancelled to pay off debts (as it was with me?). Just trying to spark off a little chat to get my brain thinking....
Been to WI in wellies in the snow today :j :j :j And bought a new swishy skirt, so all cheery(also bought some fab woolly tights, but got them home and they're AGE 12-14, not SIZE 12-14, so I had to sheepishly take them back to Oxfam :rotfl: (the packet just says 12-14, and they're body sensor tights, so it didn't occur to me they were kids!). Took my cowboy boots to get reheeled too (and the man told me off for wearing them down so low - I think one of my new years resolutions may be to say things like "can you reheel my shoes? Or are you just going to tell me off?"...)
I also went to the library and got Happy-Go-Lucky (the film) out, so I'm going to put that on the laptop and potter about in the attic for an hour or two :j Mr Daffs has built me some shelves, so I'm beavering away filling them up with things :j :j0 -

I tend to do the "sponsering" thing for friends/family if it's a charity that I want to donate to....other than that it's the extra few quid popped in the collection boxes in my favourite chairty shop every time I pop in for a nose and a big issue every time I see the nice seller in town who is friendly.

Thanks guys, I was thinking I'd like to leave it fluid too. I'll mull it over in the next few weeks (oh, and I realise it's not compulsory by the way, and not everyone does it, I think my last post might have sounded like everyone would automatically give if they could, I didn't mean it to!
)
Up in the attic, just watched Happy-Go-Lucky, and did a bit of tidyingNot much, mind you :rotfl: About to trot downstairs for another cuppa, and perhaps another pancake
Friend coming round tonight :j :j
Going to have a big Money Conversation tomorrow - all exciting stuff :rotfl:0 -
Hi Cheery and everyone,
As I am busy debt busting I tend to give to charity in a different way - I know all charities are different and that there has to be some sort of admin fee etc. but I tend not to give money unless I know how much of it is actually going to the cause I want to help. Although when it comes to sponsoring I tend to just automatically agree to this - I guess the difference is a stranger in the street asking you to sign up to a regular payment (which I cannot afford at the mo.) or a friend asking you to help them with a cause that's important to them and a one-off payment at the time. So, my main contribution is I volunteer my time . Am currently signing up to a new place - have put everything in place that i can and am just awaiting a vacancy :T I have been a volunteer at different places in the past and felt it was important to try and contribute something again. Also anything I can't sell or recycle I give to charity - used to automatically do this but due to my drop in income have to try and sell things first.

I'm pretty much the same. I tend to give to the smaller charities - they have less pretensions and smaller overheads. Look here for the examples of overheads. Those wages are paid for by your donations.
I also look here: to ensure I'm not just funding a quango.DedicatedDFW wrote: »Didn't mean to waffle on so much!
