I saw this & I too thought "What a stupid idea", apparently my friend didn't think so.
I visited her in the tiny flat that she shared with her fiance, nipped to the bathroom & there on the shelf, a Dettol no touch hand pump.. "Oh go on then" I thought, needing soap to wash my hands anyway.. I stuck my hand under, out came the soap, tried to take my hand away.. the soap came out in a long string, close to dripping onto her clean glass shelf, stuck my hand out to catch it, the pump quickly gives me more soap! not knowing what to do, I had to let it drip into her shelf, extremely messy & a lot more complicated than it looks on the ad!
I told her about the mess it'd made & how it was all a con when I emerged from the bathroom, how the tap is dirty anyway so unless you turn the tap on AFTER you soap your hand (thereby cleaning the tap as you turn it) you're gonna get germs on your hands anyway.
She's since moved twice, & in each new house, there's no sign of that messy, pointless pump.
A win for common sense if you ask me!0 -

It says "Never touch a germy soap pump again".
OK, but if you DO touch a "germy" soap pump you must be putting soap on your hands, which means that you are about to wash them - yes ?
Still, it's probably very nice soap at £7.99 a pop - but I'll stick to my "germy" one from Lidl at £0.99 !
and you still have to turn the tap on with your germy hands and then touch it again to turn it off. haha0 -
I went to the toilet at a service station yesterday.
you flushed the toilet by waving your hand in front of a sensor. The taps turned on automatically. The hand dryer was automatic. The only bit that wasn't was the soap dispenser, so I can see why they've done it.
In Canada, most public facilities are like this.
Public loos annoy me. I always wash my hands after using the loo and I have to use my lovely clean hands to pull open the exit door by using the handle containing all the poo containing germs that the dirty beggars who don't wash their hands carry.

You see I like mine (£3 with a coupon on here).
It's been running for a month with no mess (complicated littlemisslisa, really? Whats complicated about holding your hand under a pump until all the liquid drips in??). The batteries still work and didn't need replacing after 2 days.
My kitchen taps are elbow turn so I can turn them on with my elbow, put soap on my hands and turn the tap off again. Great for cooking, especially when I have chicken juices on my fingers. The added bonus is it's fun, which in turn encourages the kids to wash their hands more.0 -

They are very easy to use and mine doesn't make a mess, it's now on it's 2nd bottle and the batteries are still going strong.
I can understand the points other people have made and agree it is a bit of a gimmick, soap and water is just as good and all these "gets rid of 99.9% germs" adverts drive me mad (don't get me started on the chemical laden dettol that's sprayed all over a child's highchair).
I firmly believe that one of the reasons there's a rise in childhood allergies is because people have become too obsessed with bleach & cleaning. But the no-touch dispenser is brilliant for my OH, he's only got the use of one hand so the dispenser makes it a little easier to wash his hands.
That said there's no way I'd pay full price for one and we have normal soap in the bathroom, the dispenser is in the kitchen.Dum Spiro Spero0 -
I don't use anti-bacterial sprays, they'd be fighting a losing battle in my kitchen anyway!
My soap dispenser gets pretty mucky, my DH works with newspapers and he seems to get inky print all over the dispenser pump, sink, the taps and the towels.
I can't see that a no-touch dispenser would make much difference to the mess that he leaves.
I agree with the poster who moaned about the air fresheners which pump out chemicals every time you walk past...they just make me wheezy. And those ones which are supposed to look like a display pebble or rock, what's that all about? They should make one which looks like a bunch of keys or a DVD case.....now that WOULD blend into my decor!"I may be many things but not being indiscreet isn't one of them"0 -
i have one and although i didn't want one [oh did] i did eventually give in and i can say i wont ever go back to block soap. i did get oh to drill through the top and i refill using whatever s on offer .This is a system account and does not represent a real person.
