Thank you, you have all been most helpful. I honestly dont really know alot about cars and probably just like the look of them. I would like a sporty one which is why I liked the look of this Megane but then maybe its not a good choice if they are always faulty. If only I could trial one for a while for free.

To be honest I'm still not convinced you really need a diesel. You probably need to be doing something like 15,000 miles a year to make it worthwhile (someone correct me if I'm wrong there).

Also why are you convinced it has to be three door?

I want a 3 door as they look nicer and just prefer them. I also want a diesel as I have always had them and like the fact they can do between 50 and 60 MPG something that I would not get out of a petrol.

Ok, so how about a Golf with the same 130bhp engine but a few less refineries? Still diesel, and may be more suitable to your critical eye?

I have a Panda and I can't fault it but then it does have less than 290 miles on the clock :p Certainly the build quality is very impressive considering the price.

Grande Puntos are decent cars they are a lot of happy owners, the problem is FIAT dealers, its the only thing which stops the Panda doing better in the charts.

FIAT also seem to be very good at fixing out of warranty faults, a lot of people have had their steering replaced when the car was four years old all paid for by FIAT even though its out of warranty. All cars with electronic power steering suffer from this failure. FIAT were just one of the first companies to use it.

Does this still count for buying a second hand car? I.E if something went wrong with an 07 plate and I bought it say today, do you think fiat would still fix it?

Yep providing its got full service history. In some cases FIAT have paid 80% of the cost. FIAT often pay for the part but then want you to pay the labour, in the case of the power steering motor the part is the most expensive bit.

Its all on the FIAT forums :).

That's the same with ANY dealer. If you keep up the service history you can sometimes get goodwill contributions up to 5years after the purchase date, especially if it's a known fault.

I have a Fiat Grande Punto - excellent value for money :)
Parts and servicing are pretty cheap and while the interior build quality isn't to VW standards it is practical enough.
