I'm just using someone's brain cells to write excellently-constructed and beautifully punctuated sentences. So I can't be using a fluffy girly brain for that, can I?

Valli -Jinky is about on Facebook and isok if a little down.

I will need your support on the jam - never tried other than some chilli jam this year. We have blackberries, raspberries, strawberries, plums, apples, pears, cherries, quince, blueberries etc, etc (plus local bilberries, and blackberries) and potentially very little income from September (till I whip their backsides at tribunal) so it makes sense to preserve what I can. Eggs and jam for us I believe. Ooh, jam omelette.

Maybe we should have a flylady jam camp??

Good luck with the tribunal hex - my money's on you! Might be worth seeing whether you can get an extra freezer, as although jam is great you can't live on it exclusively!

Hi Hex, the HFW raspberry jam recipe on the River Cottage site was the first jam I ever made and it was easy and delish

Nigella's chilli jam recipe was delish too (out of her Christmas book and it may be in another one as a lot of the recipes were rehashed for that one) and it was mega easy to make too and quite cheap esp if you are growing a lot of chillis or buy some mega cheap ones

I also like Delias Christmas Chutney out of her original Christmas book and it is gorge, also the River cottage Glutney (Chutney which you can alter for the different seasons)

Since I started making these I have given countless jars away as presents and all have been well received and it got me off my br*nst*n pickle and sweet chilli sauce obsession from the supermarket

Even though I bought all the ingredients I enjoyed making them, used some for presents and made a ton to last all year and not have to buy anymore from the shops

Good luck with your preserving, I can't wait to start mine again in the early autumn

Valli - you have nothing to lose? The risk is that they spread disease, and I think they need a frost but I may be completely wrong. I am quite new to veg tbh, I mostly grew pretty stuff till we had this bigger garden. I think I am going to have to give jam, making a go this year too - just in case.

See.. now I thought you meant the dementors.. lol...
ok piggers I have added all the newbies in so I am ready for the new thread when you are.:D

I'll do it now.. then I need to remake the nest.

Chimps not showered because some dirty scrote (DD1) had upchucked in the bath and left it there.. and I can't reach th ebottom of the bath to clean it.. not that I would have anyway her being nearly 16 and all.. her mess she cleans it..

Washing all in.. some is airing in the dryer and a few bits are dangled on the airer.. but most is folded ready to be sorted tomorrow and put away.

Oh am I in a strop tonight?! lol.. I appear to have yelled at almost everyone today.. I think Moomin is the only one not to have been yelled at or had her head chewed off..

Have I mentioned before I am sick of living in a tip?

We have a full size chest freezer - cupboard space is more of an issue currently. DS1 and I have planted huge quantities of peas and yet more runner and french beans today, and earthed up all the stray potatoes I didn't clear properly last year rather than weed them out. The veg plot looks rather chaotic but who cares.

Thanks Fedup - I own one of the river cottage books, also Bob Flowerdews grow your own, eat your own.

I was stockpiling jam jars for my mum (sorry mum :o), and I should have some muslim thingys from when the boys were little.

Uniforms and lunch bags sorted. WM is on, as is the DW. Sloping off for a long bath with a book in a minute, and trying not to think about the gas/electric/water bills......
