So dont go insulting students who are trying to better themselves to get a decent career

So many students don't fit this description though, so many are going to uni for the sake of going to uni, studying for degrees that have no practical application and which have far less of an impact on their career prospects than if they had taken a job for 2-3 years.

Just lost another temp, less than a week. Lazy !!!!!!! students...

Some people just don't care or they couldn't have needed the money/job that much.

I agree that a lot of students are at university for the experience and there because it is what is expected. However, a lot of (most?) degrees have no 'practical application' (maths, physics, English, history, etc). University should not be a graduate factory pumping out little career-minded workers.

    Have you got a degree?

I done all my accountancy training without needing to go to university, and will shift across to our treasurers having completed the courses in my own time once student finance has gone, as I'm sticking around for the handover. Most degree students end up doing parts of the qualifications I've done anyway. That said, I've not needed to actually go to university.

    - I worked summer before uni. (4/5 nights a week)
    - During uni, on average 6 hours a week, but this would be less during term time, more during holidays / open days were on.
    - First year summer I went back to the job 4/5 nights a week.
    - Back to uni, as above
    - Summer of second year I started my industrial placement, still on it now and finish beginning of August.

I plan on going back to my uni job when I go back.

    Money Money Money :D

Taiko, I tried to PM you but your inbox is full; if you need anyone in the Merseyside area, I'm available (Mon-Fri as I have a weekend job already) to temp immediately...

Darn it. Struggling to find temping work because I do not have experience of switchboards, or a programme called Sage, and cannot go for callcentre work because I cannot pass a credit check (dealing with that nonsense via the credit reference agencies). I am on another forum, which either you or Taiko pointed me towards; The Student Room, and the amount of people who can't be bothered working (students I mean) is astonishing. I don't know how they'll get work after graduating as contrary to their belief, it is not a god given right and if they're head to head with another candidate who's supported themself through uni working at Pizza Hut for example, I bet every time the pizza worker will get the job.

Sage is rather easy to pick up. I self-taught myself, and found it straightforward.

Good luck in the jobhunt though, and I agree about the TSR statements. I was formerly the moderator for Money & Finance there, and saw exactly the same then as I do now.

Inbox is empty now btw. I've been dealing with a few cases for people on here of late, which are all now resolved.

Thanks Taiko, I was only going to PM you to try and get some work. I work on the weekends at a clothing retailer and have a casual part time job doing events security but it's still not enough. Because I work all day saturday, I now cannot commit to doing football security, which didn't make me as much money as the retail work anyway.

I'll be asking at my college about trying to find some work there, though when I enroll at the beginning of September. :)
