Hi Nicca - right, car booting - we did it for about 18 months week in week out, summer & winter, sun & rain (& snow!!) getting there at 3.30/4 am to get our regular spot.
I would go to the car boot to look round before you do one - check what time people get there. Just ask a couple of stall holders - most car booters love to chat about it. Take as much varied stuff as you want - you will get regular booters and traders around you early on like flies looking for bargains (we call them the vultures). Don't let them get away with paying nowt for something valuable but make use of them - a quick sale early on is better than still having it at the end of the day, especially if you are only doing one or two car boots. If you want to get rid of the item and make a bit while doing it, if you are happy with the amount you get and they then sell it on at a profit, good on tem - you get what you what for it and so do they. Make sure you take a flask & food with you - you can get these at the cafes but why spend all your takings on food & drink. Some car boots charge on the way in, usually about £5 a car could be more, and others come around once everyone is set up and collect money then.
We always found that one-off booters clearing out their loft or garage or house, generally have a very good day as it is all 'fresh' gear (new to the market) rather than items which have been bought to sell on. If you don't want to take some stuff home, just ask a few stall-holders if they will give you anything or it or take it off your hands, rather than carting it home to clutter up your house again. Regular booters are used to this and if they have room will be more than happy to take it off your hands, possibly for a few extra quid in your pocket.
I would advise you to have someone with you or to have an adjacent stall to you - very necessary when you need the loo - and also to help keep an eye on people perusing your stall - watch out, there are thieves about - not too much bother if you just have bits & pieces but if you have any jewellery or expensive items, keep on eye on them and keep them at the back of your table, near where you stand or sit (take a folding chair - it can be a long day!).
Oh, and when you check what time you should be there for, check what time you can leave as some car boots, certainly ours, have strict rules about booters moving their cars before a certain time.
If I think of anything else, I'll let you know - hope I haven't put you off - it can be really good fun, especially on a nice day
P.S. some car boots start 10 am or even 12 noon/1 pm, so you might be luckyMr 3Dogs 3-7-12

Thank you so much 3Dogs! While I just want rid of my clutter and to make a few bob into the bargain, I'd rather not be take for a fool!
I shall investigate further! I finish my part-time job at 8am in the morning, so it'd be the perfect time to go have a nosey and quiz the regulars!I shall let you know when I get around to it (heading down to Sussex this weekend so won't manage it for the next couple of weekends anyway).
