I think most of us are not thinking that the boiler will need replacing , as we have easy access to spares.
Ask your man who is servicing the boiler. Or pm me and I will give you address of my engineer.

Thank you all. What I am going to do it is leave it until the boiler needs servicing this Christmas and ask the man then - like you say hopefully it's got a few more years' life in it yet....

It's so great that people are loving their warm air heaters (especially the cat!!)....

FWAs are fine. The only thing i would counsel is that it is imperative that you have it maintained by someone who fully understands fwa systems and that the combustion ventilation, flue system and security of return air ducts are checked thoroughly. Also that you have a CO alarm fitted. I dont normally get excited about CO alarms but if you have a conventionally flued appliance,in particular a FWA unit, an alarm is a must.
Feudal Britain needs land reform. 70% of the land is "owned" by 1 % of the population and at least 50% is unregistered (inherited by landed gentry). Thats why your slave box costs so much..

Has the gas changed ? The boiler changed ? in the 20 plus years its been in use ??

Have not had an alarm in the past , not going to have one now.

I also have a CF chb though it is a wet boiler and not a FWA.

Years ago,CO alarms were not readily available.

With FWAs there is greater scope for recirculation of products of combustion due to their inherent design and also due to lack of expertise in service/maintenance and there have been a fair few deaths as a result.

My warm air unit is about 30 years old. I have a friend who services it (fully registered/qualified) and he says it is good for another 30 years. Replace it with a new one and it will need replacing within 10 years!

All the parts are readily available and yes I really like my system. No one will believe how low my gas usage is.

I don't think a new boiler costs much (won't guess a price) as long as you don't get British Gas in who will condemn your house, say its made out of asbestos, require a new flue etc. etc. (From what I have heard anyway) :D

Hopefully then the same will apply for mine. Had some new parts fitted in February of this year so hopefully should pass with flying colours when the service is due next year ... good news that he says your boiler should last another 30 years ... :j
