EMLEY MOOR transmitter - ey Moor Transmitter Works: From Monday 14 April 2010 for around 2 months, transmissions from Emley Moor will be from a reserve antenna which may affect reception for some viewers. This is in preparation for digital switchover work and signals are liable to reduced power and short interruptions, for which we apologise

If you have differing refception on different equipment then it is either.

1, Some equipment copes better with the signal supplied.
2, Your internal distribution and cabling is done to a poor standard.

This can be easily tested using the correct meters or by moving the equipment that functions well on digital to a room with reception issues.

There are numerous other issues that could be at play here, if your neighbor is getting good reception from a small gain aerial and you have the biggest aerial possible, it may well be you have too much signal and are swamping your equipment.

Hi, Thanks for reply, much appreciated. I have a 4 way inline booster from Argos, had it years, second one. Do they come with different output, as I run 5, sometimes 6 tv,s, not together, most 2 on at once, kids.Wondered whether to get bigger booster, 6 way if possible if they make them.?I installed everything myself, bungalow, some have long cable lengths, under floor, no splitters from booster to tv.Problem keeping same digi-boxes throughout, they, change so often, so different makes.Any ideas?

It does not matter if the TVs are on or not, if the signal is split 4 ways then each tv is getting less than 25% of the original signal.

If you have 4 way TV amplifier and running 6 TVs then obviously something is amiss, you need to have every TV point cleanly distributed from one central point, you can buy stepped 6 way amps such as this:

To take care of differing cable runs, but in a normal domestic dwelling its not an issue.

Dont take this personally but >90% of the fixes I make on DIY jobs are poor connections, poorly wired facias.

Best advice, get a good, well qualified aerial installer to sort it, I bet they will sort it all within an hour.

Hi, Thanks for info.Aerial shack is where I got my aerial, pole, cable ,etc, on there advice.I phoned them, explained my situation, andbought their recommended gear.I m sure it is Televes high gain digital, not sure which one,not cheap, so I think I have good tackle.I know what you mean by connections, just made 1 today for moms tv in the home ,I will probably wait till analogue is turned off, Is it October? Then either get engineer in, reluctantly", or get 6 amp way booster .It must be Reduced power from Emley Moor, thats caused recent BBc failure. Thanks again. I have gone DAB on radios and have mixed reception with them in different rooms. It,s a bit of a black spot, even 1 foot can make a huge difference to reception, still got am/fm to fall back on.When didi is good, it,s good, but when it,s bad it,s a pain.Actually, I never watch TV, avid reader and radio fan. 2 years since I watched a tv program, it,s the family.Sad EH?

Hi, You may be right, however , as an ex retired engineer, I like to keep my hand in so to speak. No disrespect to the trade, but where I live they charge the earth with differing results. I have checked them out:I just RTM. and consult this blog, and invariably, I get there, no matter what it is.The old school afraid, doesn,t always work::but it keeps the grey matter working, not always cheaper, more satisfaction though:I think you and I have conversed on techie issues, I value your advice, as I do everyone on this site.Cheers

Hi, Just been rtm. Apparently A masthead amplifier is recommended than behind set type. Mine is 4amp labgear, situated behind main tv, digi cable from rooftop aerial approx10 metres. from there, I use ordinary coax to each tv, farthest approx15 metres, this is main problem tv with BBC.shorter runs ok.However , if I opt for masthead amp, 6amp, and either renew all cable runs to amp, or extend each cable, approx 10 metres to amp, would I gain.To situate 6amp exterior to mast, means 6 cables down roof, or under tiles into loft, I probably could situate 6amp in roof, close to aerial, then that means the 6 cable runs as stated.I would appreciate your opinion.cheers
