Pregnancy's Best Kept Secrets

The one thing I wished someone would have told me is how unbelieveably jealous I would be of all the women who had gone through labour when I had to have an emergency CS.
DS1 I had pre-eclampsia and he didn't move much in the womb so I had to be hooked up to a fetal monitor every couple of days to keep an eye on him, one day the heart trace dropped like a stone. Next thing I know is MW hits the panic button and I've got an oxygen mask on my face and on the way to theatre.
with DS2 and DD (twins) I had pre-eclampsia again and trooped up to the hospital on the 27th December to get my bloodpressure done only to find that one was breech and one transverse so I had to stay in, was booked in for a CS on the 10th Jan only for my waters to break at midnight on the 9th so hit that panic button again!
Silly isn't it? DS1 is 14 soon and I still get twinges of jealousy and feel like a failure because I never had a single contraction.
Still have vivid memories of having a shower a few days after the twins were born and wondering where the water was coming from cos I'd turned it off, looked down to find my breasts shooting milk right across the room!0 -
That if you have staples after a c-sect they send you home with your own staple removing kit (for the MW to use of course
)
That c-sect can burst 12 hours after staples have been removed and they can't sew you back up (pus and open wound for 16 wks  )
Feeling a guitly as hell for not pushing her into the worldFat and proud lol0 -
Christmasshopper wrote:A Clearblue stick? Come on girl, this is MSE, they have packs of 2 pregnancy testing kits for £1 in Poundland :T
Sorry, I was just using the recognisable word, rather than having to write 'pregnancy testing stick'. Although I do not have a poundland anywhere near here, I have opted for the sainsbury's tests instead. Is that better?
Now back to all the pain and the bleeding...:wall:0 -

Ebay! testing strips - i bought 3 for £1.75 incl postage. You have to pee in your own post and dip in the test. Have found them to detect earlier than sticks!0 -

Are you sure?
What does the postman think of that?

Out of the window, I stared and told my husband about the poor Bunny rabbit I could see on the lawn - it didn't have any ears (I started to cry) and that it had this big thing growing out of its back. The poor bunny must be in soooo much pain.
When the Midwife and OH stopped laughing, they pointed out the Bird was in fact, fine.
Gas & Air is the best!!
During the first stages of labour with DS1 things weren't progressing too quickly (well, at all really) and I was full up to the gills on gas and air.
During a break in proceedings I apparently insisted that we were going to call this baby Marmaduke (after FIL's dog) and we would be moving to live in York Minster.
Those that know me well would say that this is normal behaviour  however I vividly remember this all making perfect sense at the time and being mortally embarrassed when the gas and air had worn off.
You cannot live as I have lived an not end up like me.
Oi you lot - pleaseGIVE BLOOD

I have just had to explain that to my husband....he didn't understand..or at least pretending not to...Oh....I'm not going to lie to you......At the end of the day, when alls said and done......do you know what I mean.........TIDY0

Ohh, I love this thread but I am genuinly horrified at what some people have had to go through!
I completely well and truly think this should be published and circulated through schools, colleges, universities...just damn well everywhere. I got the feeling the midwife left a massive "this is what really happens" hole in her explanation of childbirth!!
Well done everybody for being so honest :T :T I am glad though, that I read this AFTER I had baby otherwise I may have pooed myself on the way to the hospital never mind in it!!:o0 -

They saw you comming I'm afraid (no pun intended:rotfl:) I got 100 for £20:D (and I only needed one of them!) Also got 100 ovulation test strips for £20 from the same supplier, sent over form Australia. I re-sold all the unused ones:D
In fact, that's another pregnancy secret. That you'll be totally paranoid that you won't be able to conceive 'cos all you hear about are fetility problems & IVF horror stories. You'll be buying books, tests, lucky charms, statues of fertility gods imported from Brazil, then you'll get knocked up the first time you try, all whilst laying on the sofa watching a prgramme about the worlds largest crocodile (he had been nicknamed Gustav & we breifly considered using it as Spud's middle name. Honestly!)Post Natal Depression is the worst part of giving birth:p
In England we have Mothering Sunday & Father Christmas, Mothers day & Santa Clause are American merchandising tricks:mad: Demonstrate pride in your heirtage by getting it right please people!0
