After my son was born I lay awake all night long and time was distorted. Every second seemed like an hour. It was the longest night of my life. Must have been hormones I suppose. The forest would be very silent if no birds sang except for the birds that sang the best0

oooh one thing they dont tell you, how feirce the oxytocin drip is
OMG!! It would have been better if they just punched me in the stomach _pale_
This was after 6 pessaries, 3 membrain sweeps and having my waters poppedWork like you don't need money,Love like you've never been hurt,And dance like no one's watchingSave the cheerleader, save the world!0 -
Ooh, I'd forgotton the pop when your waters break! And if they burst them for you they use a thign which looks liek a crochet needle! (it doesn't hurt, really)
Being on a total high for 3 days after the birth & looking radiant & surviiving on no sleep then getting post baby blues & crying at everything....."we've run out of milk darling"........"where did you put the nappies dear?"......."there are more visitors comming up the path"........."he's awake again"......."he's gone to sleep"...........
Hubby taking the dog out for his first walk in 3 days & taking the only set of keys you haven't mis-placed in the chaos so when the midwife arrives she has to climb over the back fence to get in.
Work insisting on sending you a basket of usleless flowers & a balloon you don't want & it arrviing just as the midwife is trying to persuade you that you don't need an epidural to breast feed & the pain will go away. Of course, the midwife is so nice she goes & clambers back over the back fence to sign for the flowers & balloon!
Feeling like you are constantly being judged by well-meaning relatives & friends who are probably not really serpitusaily looking at how clean your home is or checking out how soon you get back into pre-pregnancy clothes.Post Natal Depression is the worst part of giving birth:p

oh my, this thread turned into so much more than a 'secrets' thread...all the bad things that can happen too.
Luckily it doesn't happen to everyone.
Our midwifes who took the antenatal classes always told us one of us would think it was as easy as shelling peas, and that it would all happen fine if we could just remember our breathing exercises.
Not sure if that was she was joking or just trying to put our minds at rest- where I live the C section rate is heading for 1 in 3:eek:Member of the first Mortgage Free in 3 challenge, no.19

You're so lucky!
With my second, the waters went and he was born with one push all within seconds. He was like a little torpedo shooting outAnyway, as he came out with the fluid, he inhaled a lot so he went blue. The midwives grabbed him and worked on him to clear his lungs. Meanwhile, I was left sitting in a soggy puddle
Baby was fine though - just a little grunty for the first few hours until all the liquid cleared from his lungs.
We couldn't tell the sex when I had my scan as he was all curled up in a little ball, so I didn't know if he was a boy or a girl. I'd shut my eyes while pushing, then they'd seen the problem and scooped him up by his ankles in front of me to drain the fluid off. I opened my eyes and they were level with his testicles and apparantly the first thing I said was "woah it's a boy then" :rotfl:
The eldest was very long with no body fat, and I got into trouble off the midwife for saying he looked like a skinned rabbitHere I go again on my own....0 -
This has brought back a lot of memories - but, for me, the biggest secret was how surreal everything was and how out of control I felt. Oh, and all that guff they give you about how you are in charge of how much pain relief you have that they give you at the pain relief talk. The mws took the gas and air off me because it was taking away the urge to push and I was on my own! Anyone who says that you 'forget' the pain is wrong - I had nightmares for weeks after my first.
Mind you, I still went on to have 2 more.Stash Busting Challenge waiting for inspiration:D :j0 -
Your brother and his new girlfriend visiting while you're sitting up in bed having contractions. Realising your hair is a mess, you're sweating, you're wearing a fleacy old breast feeding nighty that an American neighbour gave you when she was having a yard sale. They are in dinner dress, looking very glam, on their way to a posh party. You can't talk properly through the contractions. Not a good look.
I got stuck in the bath too. There were tears! LOLMay all your dots fall silently to the ground.0 -
For 12 years I kept quiet about the bathing! I am so relieved that I was not the only one!
I am normal!!! (Well, sort of!)0 -
hi
just managed to catch up as I have been away for the week.
Sooz congrats on the arival of your boy!!!
We had a private scan done yesterday and it was fantastic very expensive but as all my other scans have been a very medical experience it was definately worth it we invited my inlaws along and they loved being able to see the baby. baby was being awkward though and had its feet on its head so it was difficult to get a good view of the profile (we only did 2d).
I started with the lanisoh cream at 37 weeks on advice of the mw and I do think that it helped my nipples to prepare I have very sensitive nipples and untill I figured out how to latch the baby on it was agony I am hoping taht it will go a bit easier this time round but i was still only sore for a couple of days so not too bad.
