Has anybody else had trouble with their first but had success with the 2nd etc etc

How long did you wait for your milk to come in chick?

I breast fed for a week, and the midwife told me I had to put him on the bottle as he dropped 1LB and 1OZ, his weight at birth was 8LB 15OZ.

I think this is a massive reason I suffered so badly from PND

It's perfectly, absolutely normal for a baby to lose around a pound of their birthweight after delivery whether they're breastfed or formula fed. You were given the wrong information as so many women are.

Don't want to hijack the thread, you can PM me if you want to chat about preparing for breastfeeding the next one ;)

My grandmother aged 93 had her first child at age 21 and it wasn't until she was 8 months pregnant that she was told where the baby came out from. She thought all babies were caesarian. She said it frightened her to death!

That would be fab, don't worry about hijacking the thread, I don't think I have laughted this hard in months.

How long did you breastfeed for?

My new midwife wants me to stay in for 5 days this time to really help me, she also said there are pills to help stimulate the milk.

    Any advice greatfully appreciated!

This is all the crappy stuff(literally in some cases) but when you hold that little bundle you will sniff it's head and realise it's all worth it. My husband told me when he first picked our son up 'if anybody ever hurts him, I will kill them' I think all fathers say that!

He told me the other day that our daughter(who will also be born in Dec, or should I say removed...) is grounded till she is 35. We do live in Portsmouth, lots of dodgy sailors...........

  • Gosh, I remember it well....
my personal favourite is lying in the bath and just watching that milk spurt out! No reason whatsoever...
my baby sleeping for 5 hours in a sling and having to relieve my boobs in M and S toilets as they were so sore......
going for my first wee and being convinced they had stitched me up everywhere as nothing would come out!
and I remember the bra, pants and towel so well.... the bliss of the first night when the bleeding stops and you can go knickerless!

Thanks for cheering up a boring Saturday afternoon....

Good way to help stop the weeing/stiches/acid pain!

Sit on the toilet backwards. If you sit facing the cistern (I know this sounds strange!) you are bending slightly the wrong way with your bottom down and front bits up (!) and the wee virtually missed the stiches! Doesn't work with pooing though.

I was never told about after-pains. (with the 2nd - NEVER had them with the first).

I was also NEVER told that they get worse - with the 3rd, I am rolling in agony and the girl next to me on the first was in disbelief that at this stage, the pains are worse than the birth itself, cos you get gas and air during that!

Currently baking the 4th. And this is the one thing I am terrified of. They last and last. And throughout the breastfeeding it feels worse, and if you are breastfeeding you are lucky to be given even paractamol.

Oh, one last thing. They never tell you exactly how useless your partner will really be during the birth. He wants to wipe your brow. You want to punch his face.

Oh - I forgot - I do not bath whilst pregnant. I cannot get out.

During the first, I was 7 months, lovely long soak whilst hubby was at work, and had to stay there for 6 HOURS crying my eyes out until he got home, as I simply could not lift myself and bump up and out.

Adding insult, I told my midwife at ante-natal classes and she just laughed. Horrid cow she was though.

    I now do not bathe.
