You should uninstall AVAST or MSE, you should never have 2 av programs running
I have 2 av programs in one system and as long as only one is running autoprotect or real time shield or whatever they call it, I think there should not be a problem.
The reason I have two is that I schedule each to run a scan once a week and hope that one can catch something the other may have missed earlier. So as long as only one is enabled I think you can get away without having to reinstall(at least in my experience)

    Can I ask a question ?

    - why are you using these boards for advertising purposes ?

It was very naughty of me, but I could not resist signing up with spoof details. I gave them the phone number of 'the old general' (a system that answers the phone and talks rubbish to them). Sure enough 'Eric' called and stayed on the phone for a couple of minutes. You can listen to it here: http://www.elblowfly.org.uk/drwe/party8jun10.mp3

Back to AV - someone mentioned this project to me a while ago but I've not tried it myself:

I'm still not entirely sure I'd want both installed at the same time though. I achieve the same end result by using an online scanner in addition to my single installed AV.

For example ESET (the NOD32 company):

    http://www.eset.com/online-scanner

    or Kaspersky:

    http://www.kaspersky.com/virusscanner

(though unfortunately the Kaspersky has been temporarily out of action for a while)
