Avoid AVG, caused no end of problems, from pages not loading to mouse issues....[greenhighlight]but it matters when the most senior politician in the land is happy to use language and examples that are simply not true.
[/greenhighlight][redtitle]
The impact of this is to stigmatise people on benefits,
and we should be deeply worried about that[/redtitle](house of lords debate, talking about Cameron)0 -
Been meaning to ask about this. I found Microsoft Security Essentials already installed when I got a new pc with Windows 7.
I also installed Avast, Malwarebytes, PC Tools Firewall Plus, Spybot, SuperAntiSpyware, CCleaner.
Is that okay? (Currently still using dial-up but may upgrade in few months to broadband.)0 -

You should uninstall AVAST or MSE, you should never have 2 av programs running
(Are you SURE MSE came pre-installed as ive never heard of that before. Not confusing it with DEFENDER?):idea:0 -
Of the three, AntiVir. Avoid AVG like the plague, it's rubbish.Squirrel! If I tell you who I work for, I'm not allowed to help you. If I don't say, then I can help you with questions and fixing products. Regardless, there's still no secret EU law.
Now 20% cooler0 -
I used to use AVG but dumped it for Avast. Been impressed with it and had no problems regarding computer speed. Detected a few things on websites- mainly adverts.0

folks,
for those using the Microsoft one, what's it like with XP?
I'd imagine it works pretty well with windows 7 (where security is well tightened) but I'd have my doubts it could cover the XP spectrum.
BTW, Anyone notice most of the current crop of malware seems to obsessed with the hosts file.0 -
hmm interesting - when I changed to a free AV a few years ago I was recommended AVG by most people online and I'm embarrassed to say I never thought to ask again! I've just been using it since! My laptop is soooo slow and my pages freeze and my mouse disapears! I'll swap to Avast and see if that helps!House saving Targets:

Youd be best doing the following and posting in a new thread ~
Download MALWAREBYTES (Make sure you click 'DOWNLOAD LATEST VERSION')
http://www.filehippo.com/download_malwarebytes_anti_malware/
Open malwarebytes and goto UPDATE and click 'check for updates'. After its updated goto SCANNER and click PERFORM FULL SCAN then click SCAN
Remove everything thats found (needs to be ticked)
Post the COMPLETE log in your NEW thread AFTER youve deleted everything it finds
reboot
Download HIJACK THIS (Make sure you click 'DOWNLOAD LATEST VERSION')
http://www.filehippo.com/download_hijackthis/
Click MAIN MENU then DO A SYSTEM SCAN AND SAVE A LOGFILE(Takes seconds) then post the log in your new thread so we can see whats running
(do NOT do anything else with Hijack but scan and post the FULL log)
Dont just uninstall AVG, use the 32 bit AVG removal tool (Though id recommend waiting until at least malwarebytes has run)

Fine with XP.0 -
Immunet is a super light antivirus http://www.immunet.com/
It does require a internet connection to work though meaning the scanner will not work while its offline.0
