Kathy, I do hope you BIL finds the calming atmosphere in a hospice suits him, I have a little experience of them and they can be wonderful places IF they suit you. It is a choice for him to make and doesnt have to be what he wants. I mean that sincerely as I helped a friend stay in her own home with the help of Macmillian nurses and she passed peacefully with 24 hour company.
Glad that your Mum is settled better, it must be an enormous weight off your mind.
Chalky, Im so glad you are planning a break, its certainly deserved hugs xx
ISOM, pack them off to me. I have one already nearly edged for Mrs Twins and nothing much else urgently waiting. I also have an endless amount of time to sit unlike so many on here. I will Pm you my address hugs to you too x
I hope all my dear friends are keeping warm and hopefully getting through the day especially those with the black dog living with them. OH has had a few gloomy days but hopefully has pulled out of it for a while. xxClearing the junk to travel light

If anyone's knitting for Fish & Chip Babies, it appears that the little jumpers are no longer required. See this link:
http://knitforafrica.weebly.com/
A bit of a blow, as I enjoyed making them, and there was a third-party collection point near me, so I didn't have to post them anywhere!
Hi Connie, the "upside" of the close down for 'fish n chip' jumpers is - so many of the babies are surviving now and the little jumpers aren't big enough, what is needed are sweaters etc for Toddlers through to Teens.
Whatever you prefer to knit can be found a good home via Loving Hands so please do not be put off.

Hi
Just catching up on the more recent posts. 2013 seems to have caused a lot of us to say goodbyes to loved ones. Much love and hugs to those who have had to do this, and hugs to those who are still carers and looking after sick loved ones, or have loved one's who are ill (((hugs)))
The last few months I've had a weekly craft group running. We meet at my place most the time, then at Costa once a month. I am putting the meet ups to fortnightly now though as once a week was a bit much. Not that many come along yet, though we do get about at least three of us. It's still early days. My main objective is to encourage those who live on the estate where I live to come along and join us. It's hard going as we live in a 'difficult area' as such. At the moment it's just me and some friends who met up, but I'm excited about the prospect of something taking off :-) Up to now we've just been doing whatever we have on the go, but the other lady I do the group with and I have thought it would be good now to start making gifts etc ready for a table top sale at the end of the year to raise money for a school our church sponsors in Butale :-)
At the moment, I'm busy knitting chunky socks for my girls, a need they insist is charitable lol. Three pairs down, another three to go :-)
Do any of you have several stuff on the go? i.e stuff for yourself, others and charity items ?? If so, how do you manage your time to get it all done?
Have a blessed and prosperous day. Hugs to all in need ((((hugs)))) love you all.

salome, ive got loads on the go but i always end up giving preference to the thing i really want/need to do and end up feeling guilty that other stuff suffers for it.
at the mo im knitting the blanket for my brothers expected baby in the evening if theres anything on tv i want to watch as i can knit and watch at the same time cross stitch takes some concentration so if i get up early will pull a sneaky hour of that in before the others wake or if ive got all my chores done ill treat myself to an hours stitching in the afternoon.
if i finish an item for 'me' or a gift for someone i try and alternate that with a good cause or charity knit or stitch.SPC~12 ot 124

Thanks, Pam.
This morning I enquired about it at my local collection place (local hospital), and the woman on reception phoned to ask the local organiser, who said,"No! No! Keep on knitting!"
She said the babies are still being born and needing something newborn size to be sent home in, even if they are surviving longer.
Perhaps she's sending them somewhere else now.
But as you say, there are certainly plenty of other options through Loving Hands.0 -
Hi all - Thank you for your kind words, and for the advice about hospices. An uncle of mine died in a hospice just before Christmas and the care he received in the months leading up to his death was absolutely wonderful, do I know how good they are. I've never heard a bad word about a hospice. It's just that my BIL feels he isn't ready just yet, so I can't blame him for resisting all the advice, and my sister says it is up to him - she'll support whatever choice he makes. Of course, he may not have the choice at some point but for now he's happier to be at home.
Ginnyknit - I had forgotten that description - the 'black dog' but it does seem to get to most of us at one time or another, and it's never welcome, is it? I hope your OH is doing as well as can be.
Salome - good luck with your craft group! The table-top sale is a lovely idea, so I hope it takes off and encourages more members to join.
It's very cold here today, although we've had some sun so it's not as bad as it could be. Roll on spring proper!

Hello all
Firstly chalky am so pleased everything was well on Tuesday well as well as can be expected, im sure you know what I mean, I thought about you, the sporty one and the family alot the past week and sent lots of hugs and loving thoughts your way. A break is exactly what all of us would have ordered you to do so am pleased you are thinking of this xx
salome - please dont hesitate to ask for a few bits for your sale at the end of the year - any ideas??? Im more than happy to be doing a few bits Ive decided to start lots earlier and add a few bookmarks etc to my box each week in between hats and baby bits etc and that way will have a bit more to send out nearer the end of year. xx
ginnyknit am sending you and hubby a huge hug a hope that the black dog has gone for a walk and left hubby be for a while - its hard to hear such lovely people on here having such a hard time and saddens me but I marvel at the strength so many of you have xx
kathy - Im so sorry the news is bad but from what you have said your BIL is such a fighter that he is not going to give in the decision must be so tough and am only full of admiration for him and your sister - sending you lots of hugs and loving thoughts xx
isom - hope you are feeling a bit better this week xx
My fan club have sent me a kind message :rotfl::rotfl:so hopefully under their very kind instructions I now have a link to my blog which I have to say has been left redundant for a week and a bit since my Nursing position came into being - Im am now being given my P45 from my dearly beloved and so will be free to enjoy my own persuits during the day ......................:D and I have to say I will not miss him being ill he really was the most awful patient !!!!!! I must add I love him with all my heart he has worried me not only the last week but the last year has been awful as I believe he had sleep apnia(?) caused by the polyps he would snore so loud then not breath for so long then all of a sudden make an awful noise and start snoring again - he who was asleep claimed it did not happen me who was awake begged him to mention this to Drs .................... I of course know nothing - after the operation he was told they were very extreme and had started to go down his throat  - he now snores at a lesser decibell and has started to smell things slightly for the first time in 2 years or so - MEN
FISH AND CHIP JUMPERS - Im so confused over this I understand that the area that Greenfields (did this style of jumper only ever go abroad via this organisation?) is sending them to dont require them anymore but the funny thing is I have been told of Mums who have been seen with their babies in this country wearing them!!! perfectly healthy babies - could they not be put to use for families who are under privaledged etc or refuges ?? Could the babies that are born in poorer countries not use them - probably easier said than done as you do have to find a way of getting them abroad - just a thought as I feel they could be used somewhere even this country - what do others think?
Anyway am off to think about pack-ups and dinner etc - hugs and loving thoughts to all xxxxDebt Diary: Im not going to be an Ostrich anymore -LBM - 16/1/12 /0 -

Here's a link to a simple jumper pattern which might suit anyone wanting to make bigger jumpers instead of the Fish & Chip jumpers.
