Hi F1 -- Lovely to see you posting xxxx
Jean --- That crochet rocks-- You are a star! I really missed you when you were otherwise engaged with rellies!
ISOM -- Is not very well -- I saw on Facebook! Get well soon.

Lots of love to one and all --

ginny knit I thought of you today we went to Seale Hayne ( you can google it) it used to be an agricultural college but is now multi functional but mainly to do with the Dame Hannah Rogers Foundation (You can google that too) The most beautiful gallery for Arts and Crafts with individual workshops all around the main hall. Anyway there was a talk on Autism there today and it looked to be very well attended.

I am busy assembling Mrs Twins blankets but also doing a bit of Upcycling. DOH was clever enough to spot a dress with ooodles of fabric. Laura Ashley and never been worn. It was a full length ball gown, double layered.---- £9. So I have spent the whole afternoon painstakingly taking it apart and I think there is probably in excess of 5 metres of gorgeous fabric. Bunting, aprons, posh shoe bags, lavender hearts are the first to jump to mind.

Love to one and all xx

    Hi everyone

Thank you so much for all your kind words and comments about my worries. My sister, Jane, continues to care for my Mum and put her interests first, while the other one continues to find any way she can to undermine her. Jane is desperate for me to get there; I think for moral support as much as anything. I don't know how much help I can be and, for the moment, I haven't intervened between them (well, I haven't been in touch with the one who's causing all the trouble) because I think I need to be there to be able to do anything useful. Jane says it's helping her just to get things written down, so she sends me lots of emails, some when she's upset and hurt, and some when she's just really angry, but I can tell it's helping her. We're arranging to do lots of things with Mum just to give her as many good memories as we can. There are so many places that are important to her and the family, so we will try and fit in as many as we can. Anyway, we think we will go for Power of Attorney, but between all four of us (we have a brother, too, who is happy to let Jane look after Mum's affairs, as I am), so we're hoping to get that sorted while I'm in the UK. It's what Mum says she wants, too, and it will stop the other sister thinking that she can take control when she feels like it. It's so sad that it's come to this, but we can't let things stay as they are.

My Mum was really unhappy that the staff at her residential care home wouldn't let her out on her own. She tells me that it's because they think she'll run away, but she promises that she won't. We tell her it's because she's had a couple of bad falls, but the truth is that the biggest fear is that she may get lost. Anyway, the staff at the home, who Jane says are truly wonderful, have decided to let Mum go out if she promises to go only so far, and one of the staff members will follow discreetly behind her! I think that is so good of them to try and suit what she wants. As it turns out, now that Mum knows she can go out 'on her own', she doesn't really want to, so I think that particular problem has been solved! It was the not being allowed to that was bothering her the most.

I hope everyone is feeling as well as can be; it seems that there is a lot of worry on the thread right now, so I am sending positive prayers and thoughts to everyone.

Anyway, Chalky - I am so glad that William's eye is OK, and I rather think the doctor is the one with the problem! Can you believe that little Summer was three years old on Saturday? Chalky, you won't believe how quickly the time goes when you're a grandmother! My eldest grandchild, Sam, will be thirteen in January; his sister, Lucy, will be ten a couple of days later. Even Megan is growing up fast - she's seventeen months old now, and trying to copy everything that Summer does. As you can imagine, I am longing to see them; Skype is wonderful but it doesn't replace real cuddles and kisses!

Jean - I hope you are catching your breath now! I didn't do last week's update but will do it today or tomorrow, and I can do the next one next Monday, but we are off the following day (Tuesday 28th) and away until the 11th September. I've been stacked out with online work for the last couple of months. I thought it wouldn't last, so I can hardly believe how much I've been doing. I've had to tell the people I've been writing for that I will be away for two weeks, and they've told me they want to know as soon as I am back at my desk, so it looks like it's ongoing, which is great for me, not just financially, but because it really helps to take my mind off being here rather than where I really want to be. Your crochet is lovely; well done!

My BIL will be seeing the oncologist this week to see about his next round of chemo, now that the tablets have been stopped. He's still looking on the bright side, though, and spent the weekend fixing up a motor scooter for their eldest grandchild, which he really enjoyed.

Well, it's been mega hot here for the last few days with temperatures up to 43 degees, and not much cooler at night. I shall be glad when it cools down because it's too hot to do anything. Luckily, it's not humid. The holiday home I look after was full last week; I went to collect the laundry on Saturday, and it seems they had used every single bedding set, towel, bath sheet and tea towel! It filled the boot of the car! Luckily, it was so hot yesterday that it was drying on the line within a couple of hours, and I got all eight loads finished (well, apart from the ironing!).

Pippa - sounds like you had a great time with Chalky! I hope your OH is doing well.

Ginnnyknit - hope life is treating you as well as can be.

F1 - hope you are doing well.

    Seakay - and you, too.

Shaz - I hope life is not challenging you too much.

ISOM - hope life is as good for you as it can be.

Well, I'm off to put the kettle on. See you all later - and thanks for being there.

Hello lovely people-- I hope everyone is busy doing lovely things as it is mighty quiet on here.
I am quietly hooking squares for Mrs Twins in between trying to look as if I am doing a lot of housework and gardening as we have visitors coming on Weds.

I think many have their hands overflowing just now so if you need to offload we do have broad shoulders between us all.

I fear the weather has been terrible for your holiday. I hope you got my PM.

Chalky --- the weather was fab (most of the time!). We arrived Tuesday lunchtime and it was a bit drizzly, but nothing major. Wednesday we got out and about round Axminster and didn't get wet, spent the afternoon playing on the campsite. Thursday, Friday and Saturday gloriously HOT on the beach (I even donned the swimsuit and went for a swim...), Sunday hot all day on campsite. Monday torrential rain in the morning, but brightened up late morning, so we toddled off to Charmouth Market and then went crabbing in West Bay. Tuesday was good too; most of the day on site, but went to Lyme Regis in the evening. Wednesday evil rain in the morning but then glorious sunshine enough to dry the awning so we got it down dry!! (first time in 3 years)

Got back Thursday night, driven all the way from Devon/Dorset by a lovely man and his recovery truck, courtesy of the RAC. We have a very poorly car with a not too well gearbox.

Great holiday, and we're planning on same place again next year but a week later or so. Not much knitting done, but have now finished the school cardigan I started for DD.

If I plan it right, I might get to visit Chalky too!!!

    Hope everyone is well

    Dawn xx

Purplet, I am so glad you had good weather, sounds like a fab time, except the car :( RAC men are fab arent they?

Pippa, that sounds like a lovely meeting with Chalky.

Mioliere, what a wonderful place you have your Mum in. Your sister Jane must be so looking forward to having you there for moral support, she is doing a good job, bless her. Your Bil sounds lovely, finding things to do is very important especially when you are fighting cancer, Im sure he could sleep the day away but motivates himself and keeps his mind busy. As we all know your mind can make you feel really lousy if it gets a grip.

DGs has been fab this weekend, so relaxed. We took him for a little drive when he got tired and he popped off to sleep with no stress at all. He plays with the phone in the living room so we put it out of his reach on the window sill - he came for an hour today and made 2 'phonecalls, then I said 'right enough now' so he tried to put the phone on the window sill - how cheeky is that :rotfl: His Mummy and Daddy are trying their best to gently try new things understanding they may go somewhere and have to go right home ie the science museum on Sunday. I have to say despite the hospital looming this week I am remarkably relaxed and OH has picked up a bit too.

thank you all for your kind thoughts, I hope you are all keeping strong too xxx

Thank you all for your kind thoughts.

Pippa - I'm so glad you had a good time with Chalky! Thanks for the hugs for my Mum, sister, and BIL, as well as for me!

Ginnyknit - I am so glad that your OH is feeling a bit better. Hugs to your DGS - he sounds lovely! I don't know if you use FB but there is someone there (from the OS daily thread on here - her MSE name is Noahspennilessmum); she has an autistic son, and describes her life with him, and also talks about all that she has found out about the condition. On FB her name is Claire McGettigan; her little boy is Noah, and she posts lots of photos of him; he's a dear little boy. I'm sure she would happily share all the information she has. She has battled to get Noah's educational needs met, and lots of other things, and she comes across as a really loving caring lady.

PurpleTeddyBear - I'm glad that you had some good weather on your holiday. I hope the car gets better.

Our car's catalytic converter has just started to rattle a bit; we priced up getting it done here (€1,102!!), and getting it done in the UK (£218!!) so, as you can see, there is no contest. Luckily, we can get it done next week when we are back there. In France we were told it would take ten days to order the part; in the UK, two hours! What a huge difference all round. If we weren't going back to the UK, we could have ordered the part online from there for £140, and had it fitted here. I have no idea why things cost so much here.

The social worker that is in charge of Mum's case has suggested mediation between my two sisters. There was not much else he could do, but I think he felt obliged to do something because my other sister (not Jane) keeps bothering him. She even said that she has received a threatening phone call but she has done nothing about it, not even gone to the Police, so I think she's just making that one up. Anyway, she is back in our home town for a week because she has a birthday party to go to, and I know that's the only reason she has agreed to a mediation meeting. It will take place before I get there, so I thought I would write something for Jane to take, to say that I have always been more than happy at the way she has looked after Mum, and that I don't know what would have happened if she hadn't been there for her. The other one is so loud and domineering, and Jane is quiet and gentle, so I think she may need something in her arsenal.

Well, the weather here is baking hot again; DH is working on a roof for someone and has gone off with his Indiana Jones hat and plenty of factor 20 suncream, and I have typing to do, so I suppose I ought to get on with that.

Have a great day, and lots of hugs to all in need.

Thanks so much ginnyknit two superb blankets have arrived back this morning. One ginnyknit herself has crocheted which is so..pretty! Some small knitted squares too that I sent her have been crocheted up in to another beautiful blanket. Helping me out on this occasion. I am very grateful to you ginnyknit.

Thanks also to Chalky and insearchofme for their help too. Our blankets are always so well received in the homes and I know what we are doing is worthwhile.

pippa has been keeping me informed Chalky many thanks x

 Hello everyone, regulars and lurkers, hope you are well.

ISOM - I see chalky reports that you haven`t been very well, nothing too serious I hope. Have a ((hug)).

Mioliere - Kathy, that other sister sounds a right pain. Such a shame she seems to be riding roughshod over poor Jane and that`s a good idea of yours to send a back up letter to whom it may concern. Not long now till you get back for your visit though.

Pippa and Purpleteddybear - glad you enjoyed your holliers. I miss going away in the caravan :(. Used to like going camping as well when I was MUCH younger, prefer a bit more comfort these days though.
Pippa work is absolutely fine thanks. They are a good bunch to work with - well most of them, there are a couple I could cheerfully strangle on a regular basis :D but heyho, I just do what I have to do and bite my tongue sometimes.

You made my mouth water with your description of the goodies chalky made for your visit, Devon cream tea yum yum.

Ginny - your wee grandson looks a little darling. Is he about the same age as our little Jayden ? He was two the beginning of April and he loves `making phone calls` too. Just as well we can lock the phone. His mum left her mobile lying and he got hold of it and pressed buttons. Next thing she knew a voice was asking if everything was ok. Little monkey had pressed 999  She was given a wee lecture about keeping the phone out of his way and told that next time she could be in trouble.
Hope all goes well at the hospital, keep your chin up and remember to take your knitting in case you have a long wait.

I remember my cardiologist making a comment about me knitting while at his clinic last year in front of a full audience. Told him that I`d done nearly a whole baby blanket while waiting for him to give me the results of the test I was in for, so that put his gas at a peep. Let folk know they could be there for some time.
To be fair, they`d just taken delivery of a new treadmill and were getting it set up. It took a lot longer than they thought it would and I was quite happy sitting in a quiet corner doing my own thing in peace, but I didn`t tell them that.;)

Well, I just have a couple of hedgies to do for the LH fundraiser on Barra (promised her 3 dozen) so I`ll need to look for something else to do. I wonder when inspiration will strike? Any suggestions girls or will I have to trawl through all my patterns again? What a chore that will be :rotfl:

    Back again soon.
