Thank you for pointing out the post with the patterns and info. I will see what I can get started on. I have made many many granny blankets just going round and round (with corners so squares not rounds) for different charities but just wanted some smaller things to do for a change.
Lots of time on my hands as not working now so I will pop back here and uodate when I have done some bits and pieces.

morning all,
chalky, thanks for sharing williams photo, he's so cute
mint, emergency squares, are either knit or crochet 6 inch squares, that we make in sets of four, that we try and have handy for when we get a shout that someone is in need of some comfort from a blanket made by friends and full of love. my lovely friends on here made me a gorgeous lap blanket when i was going through a very difficult time, and i treasure it, and get a lot of comfort from it when i am feeling down.
busy day again, moving daniel into his new place, its not great, but its only for 8 weeks, til hopefully he gets something better
love to all

Mint -- Thanks for your interest -- info re: Geezer squares below
Maybe this would be a good time to go over the idea of Knit Your Square to Give your Share Emergency Squares or Kiss the Geezers squares as Roamin declared them!
Over the years some of our members have been touched with tragedy, sad times, illness or just general " overflowing hands"
By sending a blanket or Lappycuddly we feel they can wrap themselves up in all that woolly loveliness and at least know that their "friends " here are supporting them and sending lots of love.
Then along came Mrs Twins who does the most amazing work supporting the elderly in care homes. The blankets brighten the lounges and comfort the elderly. So for the last 2 years we have sent blankets to SIBOL ( Sunshine International Blankets of Love)
SO ALL IN ALL IT IS A WIN WIN SITUATION. WE SUPPORT BOTH OUR MEMBERS AND OTHERS.
If you are new or browsing or just want a reminder this is how it works.
1. You keep squares in sets of 4 tucked away. You can make as many sets as you like.
They need to be 6" square. The importance of this is amazing with the appearance of the final blanket. However please don't worry if yours are a little out as I have become very adept at a little tug here and there.
They can be knitted or crocheted and decorated in any way you would like.
It helps me with the placing if the 4 squares are either the same colour or shade. Again though please don't worry if your squares are a part of stash busting and all different.
Acrylic makes for easier washing and laundry care.
2. A call goes out for the squares at times of need. Having them all ready means we can respond straight away. A parcel can be with someone within a week or two.
3. Each January the years operation Stitch Up will be announced and a whole set of blankets can be made. This generally clears everyones store of squares so the process can begin again.
Please don't worry if you are a new crafter or an accomplished one. Your squares all blend to make beautiful blankets and I know they are appreciated by the person who gets them.
I used Parcels To Go Collect+ service this time to send 8 to Mrs Twins for under a fiver. You book online and then just drop the parcel off at your nearest corner shop. It was so easy and saved waiting in all day for the parcel to be collected.
So please join in the fun if you would like to and have a look here to see the blankets we have made in 2012.

Hello all
The weather was sooo bad down in Devon we decided to come home a couple of days early... I have never known it so bad down there. The one night the rain was lashing down and the wind was so bad I thought the van and the awning were going to take off...
We had a lovely meal with our friends Jan and her OH on Sunday and watched the Flotilla, then on Monday we had a BBQ with a crowd of people ended up in an awning as it was so COLD, but did it dampen our spirits...no it did not...
One of the wardens on the site was holding a craft meeting so off we went had a great time and a good laugh, I ended up showing a couple of ladies how to crochet...and they are having weekly meetings all through the season
welcome to you mint squares are always needed as are baby hats and baby blankets
chalky - awww what a gorgeous pirate munchkin
mrs-m - so pleased you have seen Lily. I first heard about Ronald McDonald House from a lady who's little girl (4yrs old) was receiving radiotherapy when OH was receiving his, she had nothing but praise for McD's.
f1 - glad the move went ok
 OS - nice work I love the colours
salome - nice to see you hope all your family are well
shaz - hope things turn out good for Daniel
jean - WELCOME BACK I missed you. I saw the pics of you in your new headgear, and very fetching it was too :rotfl:
kathy -hope things are going along ok for your Mum. How is BIL? hope something comes from the viewings and all the "proper" housework was worth it
Ginnyknit - sorry to hear things are not too good it is all so worrying for you both,I hope they send for him soon and get things sorted. I am sending special gentle hugs to you and OH (((hugs))) x
I have been working on a ripple lappy for OH's Aunt who is 90 on 10thJuly... so we will be off to Weymouth for a party  and stay over for a couple of days to catch up with all the rellies, looking forward to it
Off to make a cuppa

Well I found a pair of 4mm needles and some wool and have started very simply with 35 stitches and plain garter stitch for 6 inches.
2 made very quickly and was a lovely change tfrom doing crochet blankets.
Now I am going to see what changes I can do and make some different patterns.
Started something now :-)Living the dream and retired in Cyprus :j

Thank you all for your kind thoughts .... and the pickle recipe! I found the cucumbers at Li*dl are lovely - no plastic wrap! I usually make paupers pickles, sliced onions and cucumber in a dish of amlt vinegar but they make you very windy
:o So am going to try yours Chalky.
Having a day at home as OH isnt feeling to good today, but I stocked up on wool on Saturday so am going to sit and make things.
Hugs to all, hope the weather is kind to you xClearing the junk to travel light
Saving every single penny.
I will get my caravan0
