  • http://www.crochetcabana.com/tutorials/joining_squares3a.htm - just done my head in......now it might be because its in USA terms but I have struggled with that one, so I am edging all my squares in the same yarn then I will either sew or crochet them together....will look again at this when I have the brain cell back from whoever has borrowed it this week!
MARRU - the addiction has only just started for you, you will be finding yarn and needles in all sorts of places around the house in the car, be careful where you sit you might land on a needle.....you are doing really great tho' on the first blanket.
Off to see what mischief I can get up to while DH is away at the rugby - it's local and he is the official photographer for them these days no longer a playing. So I have the remainder of the day to myself. YIPEEE You all have a great day no matter what the weather is doing at your bit of the world. Will update a bit later when I do a swift count up in the work basket

    Hi everyone

Just popping in quickly to see how you all are. We've been besieged by visitors yesterday and this morning, so I've barely had time to sit at the PC! We are out this afternoon, too, so the weekend has been more or less written off. Should be back to normal tomorrow!

Marru - welcome to you, and I see you've been warmly welcomed into the fold, and pointed in the right direction by the lovely bunch of ladies on here. This is a wonderful thread, and I'm sure you'll enjoy it here!

Mrs Moneypenny - hope things are going well with the babies.

Jean - hope you are taking it easy!

Pippa - thinking of you and your OH.

Tootifrooti - so glad you are enjoying it here!

Shaz - hope the smile continues; you deserve to be smiling all the time!

ISOM - hope you are getting over your accident well.

Conkers, in my experience, do work to deter spiders. I was told that you should put a little nick in each one to make them more effective. We've had two of the biggest spiders EVER over the last few days; I try and tolerate them because I know we need them, but I don't want to have to wait for one to make me jump right out of my skin like the first one did last week! I was only a couple of inches away from it, and it really freaked me out; I won't tell you how blue the air turned!

Will try and pop back later; in the meantime, I hope you are all having a lovely Sunday.

Well, off to get a bit more organised.

Hi everyone, I`m a bit fed up today.

Went to Aldi to acquire some bamboo knitting needles so that I could try them. Lots of lovely wool there so had a squish and squeeze as I passed by -didn`t buy any - but there weren`t any needles !! Major disappointment.

Some of the wool was like Snowflake, lovely soft stuff for babies. I wondered if it would be good for scarves ? There were several different colours of the self patterning yarn, pink, blue, peach, lemon, green.
Some nice aran as well but don`t have any use for it, well not that I can think of at the moment.

Blankie #4 is coming along nicely almost halfway there. Cream background but haven`t quite decided which colour/s to use for the stripes yet. Been stitching in the ends of the third one, doing a few at a time as it seems to take longer to sew them in than crochet the blooming blanket !

Also doing a sands type tiny prem blanket - alternate knit with crochet- just so that the needles don`t feel neglected now that I`m using the hooky more often.

Should be catching up with some jobs about the house but I CBA so will go and do a bit more woolliness.
    Back later.

forgive me for being off topic but i need to ask a stupid question!!! - is it the whole thing or just the actual chectnut inside that you use and what do you do with them - put them on the floor or window sills???
I am not terrible phobic off them but this new place I am in is next to grass, filed etc and there seems to be loads about.

socky thats why I stay away from the magazine aisle - I cant resist either:D

psso do you think the wool is a good buy? I might try and get to mine tomorrow - dont usually have transport but will tomorrow. I wonder what sort of quantities I should stash - any suggestions would be helpful!!!! I feel I really need to build up a stash to be in keeping with you more experienced ladies;):D:D:D:rotfl: and as i dont get out so often and the nearest wool shop is pricey it would be silly not to take advantage of it if its a good price - dont you think:rotfl:

and especially as we are in for a bad winter I should stock with things todo:rotfl:

    Have I convinced you yet?:rotfl:

must go rescue the washing it s raining:eek:

    Afternoon all

Have been so busy this is the first chance I've had to sit down...:)

OH's cousin, her DD and Son in law came over to see us this morning it was lovely seeing them and catching up on all the family happenings over the last 30 years
DS2/DIL and DGS called in just after they arrived, O we had such a lovely time.:j

kathy - Yes I bet the air was blue it would have the same here, I really am not keen on spiders big ones anyway :o
chalky - Hope you enjoyed your time away
toots - you convinced me with your first sentence, as if I needed any convincing where wool is concerned ;)... you will soon be the same as the rest of us wondering where on earth to stash the stash:rotfl::rotfl::rotfl:
psso - hope you feel a bit less fed up now. The snowflake type wool sounds ideal for scarves nice and soft, I use it whenever I have any
f1 - hope you are ok :) don't forget Downton tonight, my fav at the moment

Off to do some crochet now for a change, I have another ripple blanket on the go

TOOTS - I believe that you should be aiming for at least one ball of each type and at least one of each colour too, don't want you running out half way through the winter months and then having to pay a fortune for a wee tiny ball of wool just to keep you busy. ESSENTIAL SUPPLIES it comes under on the shopping list or in my case STUFF!

    THIS WEEKS UPDATE

    8 BLANKET SQUARES
    2 EMERGENCY SQUARES

SEWING UP of blanket is going to take forever...........but I will DO IT! Off to sort out my signature

Toots, in case you haven`t seen the advert, this is what`s on offer.

    http://www.aldi.co.uk/uk/html/offers/offers_week39Sunday11.htm

So the magic baby yarn would work out at £1.75ish for 100g
the aran would also be about the same price per 100g

The chunky knit yarn is the stuff which reminded me of Snowflake (about £2ish for 25g I think) and is in packs of 2x50g balls @£3.49.

These prices seem reasonable compared to some places although of course you can get acrylic from about £1.25 in some shops if you are lucky enough to have any near you, which by the sound of it you don`t.

I personally like the quality and usually top up my stash (sssh, don`t tell DD but I might go back tomorrow and actually buy some - did I say that?)

As for you convincing us that you need to build up your supplies........:T.........we would all be in complete agreement with you on that. I can imagine nothing worse than being confined to barracks with no wool in stock. GO FOR IT TOOTS. You need to keep sane and wool does that very efficiently.;)

I was wondering about the conkers too - do you take them out of the green casing ? I came home the other day and walked through a spider web - pulling off bits everywhere - looked down and there was a HUGE spider climbing up my front  Now they don`t normally bother me but crikey, this one gave me a fright. Never seen one so big. Of course stupid here brushed it off and it went a-scampering across the floor and haven`t seen it since. We have loads of spideys outside, literally hundreds. We have crushed slate in the front garden and they run around there having great fun. When you turn on the hose they run for cover. Same out the back but it`s gravel there.
Jim thought it would be less labour intensive to have the slate and gravel and it would deter the slugs.
Shame no-one told the slugs they`re not supposed to like travelling over spiky stuff:rotfl:

Ooops, just noticed the time, better go and organise some food or the troops will be shouting. Funny how time flies when you come on here.

Hi - it's me again, back from a lovely afternoon with friends. To answer the conker question, you need the inside bit (the bit you play 'conkers' with when you're at school!). Hope all those who need them can find them. We have a whole square in our nearest town lined down one side with an avenue of horse-chestnuts, so we're very lucky!

The coffee pot is bubbling away so I'm off for now.
