Oh, Jean, there was I thinking of you having a wonderful day. I'm so sorry that it was such a fruitless day. France is so limited in almost everything (except wine and cheese) that I have long ago given up even hoping. I just wait until I get back to the UK; frustrating to have to wait but you can guarantee getting what you want. You wouldn't think that France is supposed to be the haut couture capital of the world if even interfacing is hard to get! I hadn't heard that about parcels to France - I shall have to bear that in mind. DH's tile disc cutter that I ordered about two weeks ago only took a few days so we were lucky that we didn't have to wait too long.

I hope that your visit to that other town is more productive. Meanwhile, pour yourself a glass of the falling-down stuff and have a good evening.

Morning all - oh dear I am so sorry we are having shopping and knitting problems - hope everyone is feeling a bit better today xxx

sock-knitter - Im so hoping things are going to change for you now that you have someone helping you so much - here is hoping xxxxx

mrs m - so glad you got through the scan although am worried life is so hectic for you - just dealing with one of those things is enough but you have lots to contend with - please look after yourself and rest as much as you can - big hugs xxxxx

kathy / roamin - ooooo even though I dont "go shopping" I cant imagine what its like not being able to buy nothing but "cheese and wine" - no goodies no wool etc - no am I being a pain but what a business venture for you in France - selling wool (especially to the ex-pats (is that the right term???) - sorry I will shut up :rotfl:xxx

am struggling at the moment with a "pom pom" floor cushion - helping my neighbour (if truth be known Im completely hacked off with it :rotfl:and want to put it in a carrier bag and hide it!!!!! - but dont tell anyone tee hee) 30" x 30" in sections from a knitting mag but its not doing what it says on the tin if you know what i mean

I just want to go back to knitting some hats ......................

Anyway last day of school (although I have had dear DS off for two days due to him having some sort of hot itchy rash all over his face ??????) as we are not sure whether its a reaction or a virus I thought best to keep him home - dont want to infect the whole school before half term as that is not fair.

So feeling restless I had better get on and do something - we are hoping to hear the results of FIL's MRI scan today - the hospital may know - fingers crossed and my cousin is now going to start chemo before having an operation not after

Love and special thoughts to all especially those suffering or low - take care xxxx

    hi everyone from sunny france.

jean, i feel for you, i know just how it is. i was looking at the various wool sites yesterday working out how much wool i should buy etc only to check something on kemps to see that the sidar wool i normally use has gone up by 10p a ball. i know that i wont buy more than 60 balls, but it all adds up and i was gutted. what can you do other than open all the unopened boxes, frog all the other bits and bobs and reuse where you can. well... thats what i am having to do for the moment and i dont like it one bit. it does feel a little annoying to have to pay so much for all the charity work we are doing. but ho hum, it keeps me entertained and busy, so i should think that £100 per year is not the end of the world. perhaps i should just bite the bullet and place a huge order and then drive to the uk myself to pick up all the stuff i want.

kathy, how are you? how is the farm. i would love to see some british stuff now and then (not meat of course) but other stuff, but will have to wait until march when we are going back for a while to see my MIL and help her organise her hip replacement. then back here to wait until she gets into hospital and then back again to play nurse.

f1 - sounds like you are having fun - or maybe not. good luck with FIL's scan, fingers crossed and prayers in the air.

isom - good luck with the hexagons, i know what you mean when you see something that you like and want to get on with it - gosh i hate waiting. when i make a decision (and that takes time) then i want immediate gratification - is that a bit childish?

i wanted to tell you all that i love MSE. i have run out of perfume and went looking in the shops and the perfume here is just silly prices ... if you can find it (i had to go to toulouse). i thought to myself that for €50 i could buy a lot of wool and possibly make about 25 - 30 little jumpers, so it seemed rather expensive to me. then i remembered a thread on here about a shop called the perfume parlour. i looked it up and read the reviews and placed an order (which i am now waiting for and after it has been scanned, it should only take a week to 10 days to receive) and look forward to receiving a years worth of perfume for me and a few months worth of mens perfume for my OH - all for (including delivery) £32. i am on top of the world about that, i can tell you - what a bargain, and if the reviews are anything to go by - i will be placing further orders. so ladies - think about treating yourself.

anyway, enough of me waffling, its time to clean up and then start translating my (aimed at 7 year olds) french readers - which have very interesting phrases like "stroking a wet chicken" - jean ... do you know what this means?

have a fab day and loads of wooly pleasure to you all.

    hugs and lots of love

ISOM - that blanket looks lovely!

F1 - setting up a wool shop or something similar sounds like a dream move but the red tape would probably drive me round the bend! Yes, ex-pats is the right word! Hope you manage to sort out your pom-pom cushion; when you do, please post a photo of it - it sounds intriguing! Hope DS gets better soon. Good luck to your FIL and your cousin.

DPixie - I would love to know what 'stroking a wet chicken' means! I'll look at the Perfume Parlour website, not for myself but for things like birthday and Christmas pressies. I don't wear perfume because I'm allergic to most of them; air-fresheners are the worst! We have a perfume shop here in a local shopping mall and I think they spray a bit of every perfume in the shop in there because it almost stops me breathing. I have to cover my nose and mouth whenever I walk past it - they must think I'm mad!

It is annoying when you can't just pop out to buy wool, isn't it? I can't understand why France is so backward that way. The shops are full of lovely (expensive) knitted things yet the wool supply here is dreadful. Perhaps they just don't know that just across the channel are all sorts of woolly delights!

The farm is OK but the owners are permanently exhausted, and I fear that it is too much for them, especially him because he's not 100% healthy. The red tape and social costs here stop them employing anyone to help. A group of us help when needed but they have said that DH and I would have to move in and learn to butcher like they do to make it really successful. I won't be surprised if they call it a day soon, depressing as it sounds. The worst thing is that it's not the dream they thought it would be and it's breaking their spirit. If sheer hard work and commitment was enough, it would be easy because they're the hardest working couple I've ever met. It saddens me when I think about it and I hope something can happen that will make it all worth while for them.

Anyway, I'd better go and do something useful I suppose.

    Evening all,

I have had a really lovely day:) last week I txt some of my friends and asked them over for Lunch today, just cobs, salad, picky bits and of course cake, and a glass or 2... 1 for the drivers ;)
We worked together, most of us for over 10 years, 4 of us are now retired and 2 are still working.
Christmas is the usual time we meet up for a meal, along with a few others, but dates were difficult with most this year so it just did'nt happen, and I thought it would be nice if we met here for something to eat and a catch up and it was we had such a good time :D

dpixie - "stroking a wet chicken" now why would anyone want to do that:rotfl:
ISOM - just tried to get into the ravelry site and I have forgotten my password :o as usual I'll remember it when I'm not thinking about it ;)
kathy - O what a shame after all that hard work, I really hope it does'nt come to that
mrs-m - gentle ((hugs)) for you, I am glad the scan went ok.
jean -sorry the shopping was such a disapointment, hope you have more luck with the shops in the other direction:)

  • Hi everyone, sorry to bother you all... and sorry if this is not the right thread to post.... last year i got a pattern for a baby blanket... now i have the website after hours of looking last night, and it worked last night, but because it was so late i didn't write the pattern down i just bookmarked it. When I went this morning to get the pattern the website will just not load up... so i'm here ... pleading...and hoping... that someone might have taken the pattern down... i'll post the link and see if anyone maybe has it.. or remembers it.. I know it's a long shot... but thought i'd ask...www.knitting-crochet.com/babbla.html if you google it and go to images you'll see it's a white blanket maybe that might jog someones memory.

    thanks for now. :)
