The only wool outlet here is part of a very snooty boutique; all the wool is arranged so that the ball bands match and you feel you just can't fondle it!

No fondling the wool  That`s shocking. How else are you supposed to decide if it`s `fit for purpose` ???
I like shops where you can touchy, feely to your hearts content. Mind you that encourages more purchases, well in my case anyway.
The more I can see, touch, feel the softness, the more I want to buy, buy, buy.

Some girls love shoes or handbags, give me soft cuddly wool any day.

• Hi everyone- long-time lurker coming out of hiding!
I have been wanting to contribute to something for a little while and was inspired to actually get down to it.........
So I have just finished my first item for the preemies- a little cardi- and am set up with some wool to begin some sleeping bags. Should I finish a fair number of items before posting them on or do you tend to send in dribs and drabs? I have a bit more time at the moment but will not be able to do so much in the summer months.

Hi everyone

KrazyKay - a warm welcome to you; I'm so glad you joined us and hope you enjoy it here! For all the info about what we do, along with links to patterns, tutorials, and so on, please look at page 95 of this thread, post 1885. As for posting the items off, some of us wait until we have a lot of things, some send when we just have one or two items; just choose what suits you.

Don't worry about how many things you are able to make; we all have different work and family commitments, and just fit the knitting in around them. One little hat is just as important as several, and will help a baby in need.

We each post our individual totals on here and they get added to our weekly update spreadsheet (which you can find by clicking into my name at the side of this post, and going to my 'homepage'). The main thing to remember is to list the number of items you make in red; it makes it easier to find when doing the update! Totals you post up to midnight on a Sunday will be added to the update that is posted on the Monday. Most of us keep our own running total in our sigs.

I see you are quite new to MSE, so if there's anything you don't understand, please ask and we will all be happy to help! I know when I first joined, it all seemed very confusing and I thought I'd never be able to navigate the site!

hi all, jean thanks for that recipe, however i am not sure it will work as i could only find ready rolled puff? will give it a try though as it looks much easier than what i was doing.

the evening with the neighbours was lovely (if difficult - sometimes its hard trying to have an "adult" conversation with the limited vocab that i have) - it does tickle me how little the french drink - they had one glass of wine each over the course of 3 hours, and not even a big glass at that - i though the french were supposed to like wine? anyway, they ate all the snacks i put out, so that was good.

other than that i have been researching how to get wool over here and have found someone who will bring a whole lot over for the princely sum of £35, delivered to my door. i think, at the moment, that that is the best offer that i am going to get, so i may start planning my wool order from those lovely people at kemps.

mrs mp - how are things going? and all you other lovely ladies?

welcome to the newbies, you wont believe what a lovely place this is - no bickering and lots of help - on all sorts of things.

kathy, you do make me laugh, you have such fun shopping, dont you? i must say that i am a regular in our local bricolage, i love it as it has everything from planks to v.v.v expensive wool (which i touch and stroke, but dont buy). with so many sheep around here, one would think that wool would be more available, not sure how to look into this, but with my spinning wheel, if i could get another lesson, i could be self-sufficient with regards wool.

oh well, off to prepare for this afternoons french lesson (who knows if it will take place, its only been cancelled 5 times so far!!!)

have a fabulous day.

Good Morning Everyone!

I'm just wondering whether any of the Ladies on MSE might be interested in joining in the fun. We are doing a special Challenge. Please read below. I do hope it's okay to post on here. Any problem I will take it off.

'The Royal Blanket' Challenge.

You may be aware of a certain event taking place on April 29th. Yes it is the royal wedding of Prince William and Kate Middleton.

Great British Yarns is running a special competition. They are asking participants to Knit or Crochet something to mark the occasion. (SIBOL) as you know loves to Knit and Crochet and I wondered whether you'd be interested in taking part in a 'joint effort'.

Another picture Blanket this one to celebrate the Royal Wedding. So you could have pictures of a Crown, Royal Wedding Cake, Wedding Rings/Engagement ring, Royal Carriage, Initials on a heart/, Union Jack Flag, Doves etc., on a 6" Square.

If we send a Blanket off on behalf of SIBOL.The Blanket WILL NOT be sent back. We will send if off to reach by the 20th April and then the Blanket will be auctioned off to raise money for a Charity that Prince William is involved in. It may be the Prince William and Prince Harry Foundation. This supports disadvantaged people, especially the young and servicemen/women.

There is a Top Prize of a £50.00 voucher to spend in the online store, with second and third place also receiving vouchers. The Winner would be announced 29th April.

Every entry will be photographed and put on the Great British Yarn web site along with the name/s of the person(s) who made it.

I have been told that the Great British Yarn web site will tell us how much each item has raised when auctioned. Of course we shouldn't be disappointed if our SIBOL Blanket didn't raise too much. Sometimes these sorts of things can be disappointing.

If SIBOL was lucky enough to win a voucher this would be put towards yarn for our SIBOL 'Sunshine Blankets' for the Elderly. You know my members and myself have been working very hard all year making Blankets to be donated to Nursing Homes in the UK. But at the same time we would be having fun making the Squares, and watching them come in on Flickr.

What do you need to do?
I require
6" x 6" (15cms x 15cms) Squares Crocheted or Knitted.
Acrylic if possible please.
This has to be a picture Square depicting anything you like but it must have something to do with the Royal Wedding.
It could be a Crown, Wedding Cake, Royal Carriage, Initials of William and Kate, Doves, Wedding Rings/Engagement Rings. Union Jack, etc.,
LIMIT OF 2 SQUARES EACH PLEASE.
Your Square must be 6" to be accepted into this Challenge
Must not arrive any later than 18th March.
I will need to make it up.
Any queries email me Sue on sueatpigsty@talktalk.net
I know there isn't much time really, we will need to crack on with it.
Thanks for reading.
Hope everyone are okay on here.

• OOO Mrs Twins, something amiss there Honey
Dpixie, put the Parmesan between the pastry ie, cut it in half, spread parmesan slap other half on top, I don't buy ready made, but Janette (the FD) cheats, she usually ends up with two or three packs. Liberally spread with parmesan.....then does the cutting and twist.
Pouring buckets here today, so I am into the sewing big time. Love and cuddles to you all, welcome all newbies, lurkers etc. Mrs MP hope things are going fine at yours.

Hi everyone, just a quickie.

I think it must be the weather that makes the mojo go into hiding. Been wet and miserable past few days here and now it`s cold and frosty ..........and mojo has gone walkabout here as well.
Oh for some sunny days. Mind you when the sun shines you see the dirty windows :( *sigh* I can`t win can I ??

Have had look at Mrs Twins blog and you can read the posting there OK.

Going to sit down for a wee while with the wooly stuff and a cuppa to try to warm up a bit. I`m so cold today my rings are twirling around my fingers and getting in the way.

Have a good day, keep warm.
