Made the loooooongest string of bunting today in readiness for DMIL'S 80th next week.

Poor DOH is getting the garden spruced up and spent the morning planting some new plants in gaps. He came in for lunch and then could not find 1 of the plants - a lovely grass. He searched, I joined the search and we searched and searched. Then he decided he must have put it on the gate post and somebody had either stolen it or thought we were giving it away as we sometimes put surplus veggie on the gatepost which people can help themselves to.

Then we went to the shed for the trestle table for the Car Boot Sale we are doing on Sunday and it was nowhere to be seen.

We searched the garage, shed again even though its too big to miss!!

Then DOh went to the garage to get a bottle of wine as losing so many things is very stressful. And he was sure some bottles were missing!!!

Well DD1 arrived and she had borrowed the table.
I went out to hang up the bunting to see what it looked like and there tucked on the patio was the plant
And the missing wine --- we must have drank that. So we had a cup of tea each instead as we are obviously going into serious decline!!!
Try and do a good deed every day.

    Hi everyone - I'm back!

I can see I have a lot to catch up on so I will read back through the thread a bit later.

Well, what a fantastic time we've had! We've hardly had time to take a breath but it's been so so good to be back with the family, and it was over all too soon.

Mum's party was brilliant and so many people turned up (there's a photo of us all on my blog) which made it a really special occasion, made all the more exciting when DS2 and DIL2 announced to the family that they are expecting another baby! Little Summer is going to have a new brother or sister in March next year - how I'm going to get through the next few months, heaven only knows!

There was a little worry during the trip because poor DGD1 (seven years old) had to have a hernia operation on Wednesday. Bless her, she was really brave and, although she'd had a general anaesthetic, she was allowed home the same day and is recovering really fast. We were on hand to collect her brother from school so that mum or dad didn't have to leave her while she was waking up. She will be able to go back to school fairly soon but will not be able to enjoy her beloved cricket, swimming and gymnastics for about four weeks. I'm just thrilled that the operation is over now - she was almost her usual bubbly self by the time she arrived back from hospital just about six hours after the op; I was amazed.

We've been completely spoilt by the good friends we stay with when we visit the UK. I don't know what we would do without them - they are always so welcoming and we really enjoy our time with them. This time we met their lovely new granddaughter, Ava-Jane, and their seven-month old border collie, Ruby.

I'm still on a real buzz from such a wonderful trip - I can't wait until the next one. Not sure when that will be but I hope it's not too far away!

I've made some IS hats so I will count them up later and update my sig. I also made a start on a throw to go on a chair in our bedroom using some rust-coloured wool that won't do for anything else. I had to stop halfway through because, although I have loads of the wool here, I didn't take enough of it away with me! I forget how fast it crochets up compared to knitting! I've bought loads of wool which should keep me going for a while; really it needs another box to put it in to add to the four huge boxes I already have but I'll have to squeeze it into the existing boxes somehow, having told DH that I was desperate for it! Poor man had to walk through the shopping centre with two transparent bags full of wool - that should do his street-cred no end of good!

We also bought lots of other goodies simply because there is so much more available in the UK compared to here, and at brilliant prices, too. I know they say 'rip-off' Britain but I now know that I took for granted all that you can buy over there, and I feel a bit deprived having had to come back here, especially with Christmas coming and so much I would like to have bought. Sadly, both DH and I could have spent a small fortune each but we had to think of the weight in the car - we had to buy some paint and some more doors for our kitchen units, so that took up a lot of space (that could have been put to better use with some more wool!!)

Anyway, I've really waffled and I'm dying for a cuppa before I put the washing machine on with the first of what looks like ten loads to do! I'm sad to have had to leave family and friends after such a wonderful time, but I'm very glad to be back with you all! I was hoping Louis would have miraculously returned by the time we came back but, sadly, he hasn't, so I'm having to accept that we won't see him again. We did get a lovely welcome from next door's cat, though, and he spent the evening with us watching us unpack, so that was a little consolation.

Thanks to Jean for taking care of the update - Jean, that tangle of wool looks just about impossible to deal with!

ISOM - I'm so glad the blanket got there. Sorry it was only one but I will try and do some more over the next few weeks.

Chalky - we've sunk more than a few bottles of wine over the last ten days; perhaps somehow your missing bottles found their way to us?!

I will find a moment or two later to catch up on all the news but I hope that everyone is well.

    See you all later.

Welcome back mioliere, sounds like you had a wonderful time, and the promise of a new baby as well to top it all off, how lovely. Your knitting needles will be hot. Sorry Louis isn't back.

Chalky your post about losing things made me laugh, I guess that sort of thing happens to us all when we're extra busy. My son calls it a Senior Moment. Huh, it'll come to him one day.

Hope your mouth is a bit better Shaz, and that you can eat properly.

ISOM you could rent your Mum out as the ironing pixie, I'd be the first customer:)

Love that pink wool roamin', I used to untangle all my Mum's wool, actually quite like doing it. I know that's a bit weird.

    Love to everyone xxx

    Hi Kinsey

I love all those chairs. I think your favourite is mine, too, but I love the Union Jack ones. My DS2 would love one but I think it would take a month of Sundays to make it, so I may just post him the link to the photo! Thanks for posting the link - I love things like that.

Morning folks, I have just spent most of the moring hunting for the RUFFLE SCARF pattern....got Kathy's three crochet ones and Pams knitted one too now - I know I saved them last year when they were first posted......perhaps they are hiding with Chalky's wine, which wouldn't surprise me in the least!

Welcome home Kathy - so pleased you had a great trip. Shaz hope that ache in the face goes away, how horrid. Kinsey - my knitting professor (MACHINES) has all her chairs covered and the two couches in the living room are knitted over too...she says she did them as a temporary measure when they first moved in to stop the dirt and mess getting onto the good suite...but that was years ago now!

We have sun today but oh so chilly, me thinks the stove will be getting started shortly and staying on till spring next year.
QUESTIONS ABOUT THE RUFFLE SCARF - HOW BIG A CHAIN AND HOW MUCH WOOL DOES IT TAKE ??? I seem to remember that some were longer than others and there were two colours involved...my brain is mush, as I read through practically the whole of last autumns postings - they were all good tho'
Back a bit later, ye all take care

Jean - I posted my patterns on my blog last year, either November or December, so they will be in the archive. Also, here is the pattern I used for my first one - all others have been an adaptation of this one, really! http://www.caron.com/projects/bliss/B5_ruffle_scarf.html I didn't do any knitted ones, though. It's lovely here this morning but we had a cold start, too. It seems daft but I want the heating on in the early morning, yet right now the sun is beaming and it's really warming up. I must add - I only WANT the heating on - I haven't actually turned it on yet! DH doesn't feel the cold so he will be doing his burning martyr act if I put it on too soon!

Hi everyone  - nice to see you `home` again Kathy.

Just pop the heating on for a wee while in the morning to take the chill off, that`s what I do.
Mind you, it`s soooo chilly here that I put the fire on yesterday and sat knitting and reading all afternoon in front of it...lazy day for me. Think it might be going on again later today as well as it`s perishing outside today. I had intended going out and tidying up the front garden but it`s too bloomin` cold and showery so I`ll give it a miss for today.

Love detangling wool as well........are we strange ?? No just enjoy making order out of mayhem ;).
Was just thinking about making a few ruffly scarves as well, knitted I hasten to add. My circular needle fell apart last year while I was doing it - cheapo from Lidl - so might have to superglue the ends in before I start or go and buy a more expensive one and see if that`s any better.Don`t really like circs so might just try the superglue.

Poor you Shaz, sore mouth/ears not good. No painkiller seems to help when that happens. Big hug from me.
Had to take DD to dentist on Thursday as she was in pain. Couldn`t see anyone at usual surgery but got an emergency appt at the local GDens clinic. Pain was at the front of her mouth but a bit had broken off a back upper tooth a couple of days before and the dentist thought the pain was coming from there. Tooth was in such a state that she pulled it out there and then. Big hole now, but no pain, whew.

Love the knitted chairs but oh, what a long time it would take to do them. I`d get fed up before I was half finished. Speaking of half finished items, I`m steadily getting through the wip`s in the basket. Oxfam jumper just needs sewing up so that will be done today. Found the pattern for fingerless mitts I was using last year so I`ll get the second one done now. I`d put the pattern away with some others so there`s been a single lonely mitt in the basket for nearly a year :o.

DGD saw some bright orange wool in the stash and has asked for an orange teddy. Might do one using the Pudsey pattern I have. Did a Pudsey and his friend Blush last year and quite enjoyed doing them - and they actually turned out quite well surprisingly. My track record with toys is not good, but as it`s her birthday at the end of the month I`ll maybe make it as a wee extra pressie.

OK, I`ve blethered long enough for now so I`ll go and do something constructive for a while.
    See you later.
