It isn't illegal to instruct dealers on how you product should be sold. Selling online can really harm a brands reputation and i can see why they don't find it appealing.0

Forgot to say once we had chosen the fire we wanted we looked at various suppliers and ended up buying the stove off EBay. We had a reputable installer and knew what product we wanted.
The installer did not want to sell us a stove and it was cheaper going via Ebay. They also had the stove in stock rather than smeone taking your order you paying and then waiting 3 months for delivery. We even got cash back going via Quidco.
If you do your research and have an installer that you trust there is no reason on earth why you should not buy off the internet0 -

I'm afraid it is illegal to ban Internet selling - though a manufacturer is allowed to impose certrain restrictions on how its product is sold. Recently, greater leeway has been allowed to manufacturers by the real government (the EU) but they have to be extremely careful how they go about it. Even a whiff of anti-competitive practice and the fines can be astronomical.
When it is done in the attempt to impose retail price maintenance then it's completely illegal (unless the manufacurer is French, of course!).
From my experience (and I know we disagree abut this) having experienced some of the stove sellers this sort of policy is claimed to protect, I'd sugest it's little more than a racket designed to keep prices high.0 -
Anyone got any opinions on Stovax stoves? Our local installer supplies these aswell. Just looking for some opinions really!
Cheers!0 -
OK...my experience. I had a Town and Country Little Thurlow fitted in January. This is my only source of heating. I live in a 2 bed cottage, not massive but not pokey. This is a demon stove. Easy to control, keeps in overnight easily, has good heat output and I can thoroughly recommend it.
That said, I would look at the Squirrel (as it has a fab write up and I am curious) next time. My boss has a Stovax and it gives her good background heat. I knew I wanted a proper workhorse and that is exactly what I have.
Oh and definitely do your research on the installer. There are some bloody ignorant people out there! I went to the most expensive company(with an excellent reputation), picked their brains and then compared everyone against them.0 -
I got a Fire fox 5 stove (5 kw) and i cant fault it its kind of a contempry looking stove.
I choose it because it has a large window so you can see the flames easily.0 -
Oh dear!!! I have just decided I might fancy a stove in my new dining room (orangerie) and on starting to research seem to have opened a can of worms.
I have got a fireplace with a marble backplate and hearth (originally with a gas open flame fire) and was fancying a pot belly multi fuel stove. Not to heat the whole house, just the one room and to be a feature.
I stupidly thought I could run the top pipe on a pot belly through the roof of the orangerie. Alternatively, I thought of using a traditional style glass door stove that could be flued through the wall. Now I read that all stoves aren't legal, you need a chimney?, you need to pass all sorts of regulations (which I know our council will rip me off for loads more dosh) and choosing one is apparantly a minefield. Heeeellllppppp!!!!!!!!!!!0 -

Morso Squirrel any day........a million miles apart from the Firefox 5. We moved house recently and i'm knocking 2 fireplaces out when i get a minute and it'll be a Morso Squirrel in one and a Charnwood Cove 1 in the other. Or maybe just 2 Squirrels.
A Firefox is okay as far as budget stoves go and if it's your first stove you'll not know any difference but if you'd owned and run a Morso before you'd hate to go back to a Firefox.0
