I dont give scammers the lickings of a dog, nor the lazy work shy and Im disgusted by the people who want to make an inheratance disappear to keep them entitled to means tested and the such like(which is to mind bizaar) but I do feel that everyday people on this board do help some people who genuinely need help.0 -
i replied to a thread only last week when a genuine poster asked for advice. 9 out of 10 people replying had nothing useful to say but plenty of horrible comments. it was her first thread & probably her last after the way she as treated

9 out of 10 people suggested that her husband try to get a job and support his family which was the most useful advice to give in the circumstances!0 -
she said her partner couldn't work because of disability. he would be a stay at home dad to save claming childcare costs. if she was a stay at home mum & he was working, i don't think people would have been so horrible to herThe £1,000 emergency fund challenge #163 - £536.16/£10000

She "claimed" that her husband was unable to work at the end of the thread, with no mention of it before and no mention of his receiving any sickness/ill health benefits.
People would have been just as critical of the reverse situation if the husband was only working 20 hours a week and expecting the state to subsidise his lifestyle choice of having 4 children!0 -
NextyearTina - have a look through that original thread - and you will see that the OH's health issues were not raised to begin with.
If people want help and advice on a forum, it's just like in real life - you get as much useful information back as what you give in the first place.
If I come on here and posted - I've just quit my job, I have five kids, what can I get? I would get a totally different response than if I said 'I've just had to resign from my job due to the long hours involved and care involved in caring for XXX due to XXXX XXXXX health issues, what help might I be entitled to during this time?' Don't you think that the two situations come across totally differently? I know what response I would give the first one, and I would hope that those who know what help would be available would be here to help with advice and guidance on the second scenario.0 -
It's unrealistic to expect benefits advice to be provided without some comment. If that's what MSE wants, perhaps they should consider employing people to provide the advice, rather than relying on the many regulars who help out here in their spare time.
It's not actually the regulars who cause the problems anyway, it's mainly the casual passers by, people who won't even read this thread.
I'm tired of the benefits board, tbh. You get people coming here, pleading poverty or ranting against officialdom ... yet you meet them in other parts of the forum where they're talking about that holiday they've just booked, or the new supersize TV they're about to order. It's all a bit jading.I no longer contribute to the Benefits & Tax Credits forum.0 -
i thought these boards were for help & advice. it's obvious we're judged first before we're offered any of that. i was judged by my txt colour & slang. does that make me a benefit thief?!?!The £1,000 emergency fund challenge #163 - £536.16/£10000

BTW - the text colour and slang - to be honest, I never read any of your posts as I prefer proper wording - not picky about spelling, but I did think of Vicky Pollard as well when I first attempted one of your posts, I did find the colour annoying on the eyes. Never have liked pink
