my 12 months contract with vodafone will end on 9/7/2010. I did not contact vodafone as i am waiting for the release of iphone 4. what will happen on 9/7 if i do not contact vodafone? will they put me on a monthly rolling contract for the same tariff? or will they put me on another 12 mnoths contract? what is the best way to tackle this issue? Although i am not fussed about staying with vodafone, Iam very keen on keeping my phone number

You didn't have a 12 month, you had a 12 month minimum term contract, so yes, the contract will continue on your existing tariff on a monthly rolling basis.

Get an Android phone as soon as you are able.

It's all about personal preference. The Android operating system is widely accepted to be better than the iPhone (based on the current iPhone OS of 3.1) but in the main, a phone using the Addriod has one advantage/disadvantage:

    It's not an iPhone.

If you want an iPhone, wait and see what's advised on 7 June in the "Stevenote Speach" as it's called. In the meantime, have a look at Steve Job's speach about the new operating system for the iPhone (clicky). Expect this to be pre-loaded on the new iPhone and available to download for the 3G and 3GS on the same date.

Other people will give you more information about Android than I can - my phone works on Windows 6.1!!

Perhaps the better moneysaving advice is to wait until the new iphone 4 comes out and then buy an Android one (I.e. the HTC Desire).

With all the hype and hoopla driving customers to the 'latest' apple gadget, it will be an excellent time to get a great deal on a HTC Desire.

I'm waiting till the price drops to £20 per month on a 18 m contract, which I expect to happen about 3 days after the new iphone is released.....

If someone wants an iPhone, it's not about moneysaving.

I don't have an iPhone. I will, however, get one at some point this year. Why? Because I want one. I've wanted one for ages. I know there are better phones out there - my phone on Windows 6.1 will do lots of things that the iPhone won't and it has a better camera.

I got my current phone last year. I'm very happy with it. But I still want an iPhone. I don't want to buy the HTC Desire; I want an iPhone.

And for those actually considering a Desire:

back to the original question...i pay vodafone £17.50/month for a tariff which is worth £35 as they gave me 50% discount to keep my custom. now if i continue with them on monthly basis will they charge me the full £35/month?also, do i need to give a month notice to terminate if i decide to move to another network?

What does your current allowance give you in minutes/texts/web?

I presume you don't have an iPhone now as your current contract was from 12 months ago.

The reason I ask is that what would have cost £35 a year ago may not cost that now.

Finally, can you buy the iPhone outright or do you need the contract to cover the cost? If it's the latter, the demand for the new iPhone will mean they can hold their prices and tell you to "lump it" if you don't like it.
