I'd say pop down to your local shop and have a play with the Desire, or the Samsung Galaxy S if they have it yet. I've just bought the Desire, upgrading from a G1 and I'm very happy with it, does everything I need and so much quicker than my old G1.0

Well there's no wrong decision, you won't go far wrong with either of them. Apple did a terrific job at making smartphones viable for the masses, but it's good to have a viable iphone alternative on the market. Personally speaking, Android appeals more to me, I'm not fond of how Apple do business!0
