been reading the forums for ages but first time I've posted a message and I hope it works. Will be trying the challenge for september as for first time in ages I'm skint. I dont work much when kids off school so next month's pay will be 'light' too. Does anyone know if there's a best day/time when Tesco reduce their stuff? Used to be Sunday afternoons but they dont seem to do as much as they used to. Thanks

I'm a first timer too and I would like to join the September food challenge too.

We normally allow £200.00 from DH's account, and whatever I spend during the month (I think it adds up to about £60.00 over the month!) I think realistically I would like to get this down by £50.00 from whatever I spend, and £180.00 from DH's account.

Luckily I do tend to cook things from scratch rather than preprepared stuff, so please keep your fingers crossed everyone :)

Can't wait to be able to get about again and get to Aldi and to look around at bargains in other supermarkets! Need to bring this spending way down!!

I've found between 6 and 7 on mondays, tuesdays and wednesdays are best for reductions in Tesco .Thursdays, Fridays and Saturdays too many late shoppers and there's nothing left in the reduced bit.I have discovered that Lidll give away free samples first thing in the morning, not many and 1 per customer. I got a breakfast pack of 12 sausages, 4 black pudding, 4 slice and 4 hash browns which pretty much takes care of the weekend brekkers. The Co-op reduces items mid morning so I go at lunchtime. They also still keep any offer on an item even if reduced eg 2x £2.99 with a 2 for £5 reduced to £1.49 each will still have £1 taken off at the till if you buy two. This works well until one time the items had been reduced so far the shop had to pay me to take them away so i quickly bought something else before the manager came to see.Hope this helps

  • I'm also joining in for the first time.
I've decided on £300 this month as it's 5 weeks. I've started making my own bread to help keep costs down and I'm hoping once the kids go back to school I can get back into my usual routine again (not that I want them to go back to school)
Anyway, there's Me, Hubby, 2 teenagers and 6year old and 1 dog.

I think it depends on when you get paid. DH's pay day was last fri so for us September is a 5 week month as its 5 weeks between pay days.

I suppose it's really 4 by the calendar.

Was lucky I had a solitary 20p coin lurking in my purse-how embarressing would that have been!!

So week one of the challenge and I've failed already:rolleyes:

    | did that yesterday - went a £1 over in Sainsburys, I was trying to work out what to take off and the girl just sat there staring at me. Don't know how I miscalculated!

Ah well, I doubt I'll ever see her again, eh?
