So - first week in and I'm already over the weeks target. £83.06 * 5 does NOT = 300 (or less)

I did have all my family down at the weekend and they are a bunch of gannets, also had to supply them with alcohol. No excuse this week so should be able to pull things back a bit.

Just need to stop eating and then I'll be fine.

I have to feed 2 adults, 5 kids a fussy cat who will only eat Whiskas or Felix and only in pouches, and an evn fussier dog who will only eat fresh meat.

Our cat would only eat Whiskas, then I decided to buy a cheaper one,It was a battle at first but I won:j ,cats if left to go hungry will eat anything that is put down, they are a bit like children if we spoil them and let them eat everything they want they become fussy eaters.I have managed to half the cost of feeding our cat. :j Good luck.
  • I've been doing this sort of budgeting since I started reading this website, back in January. I was disgusted to discover that my husband and I were spending £70 per month just on bottles of coca cola! Needless to say, we have since changed our drink guzzling ways, and are now sticking to a monthly food (only) budget of £100 between us. it's amazing how much we've been able to save just by ditching the fizzy drinks and buying stores own-brand items!!!!!

    Hi Icemaiden,

    Yes, Yorkshire born and bred!

When you say that you have started putting away for Christmas now, does that mean you have a menu plan for the Christmas week (aside from Turkey and trimmings on the day itself) and you know what to get? I've wondered about menu planning for that week but the boys aren't even back at school yet and it feels too early.

I don't have a meal plan as such as we tend to live off left-overs for most of the christmas week. I buy things in advance like, fresh coffee, chocolates, nuts, M & S stuffing:eek: stuff for making sausage rolls, xmas cake, mince pies, buy large piece of gammon, extra pop.etc....Last year I got my turkey in early Nov(cheaper). I'm lucky as I have two freezers so can make the most of any special offers.
Theres a great thread just started on buying christmas food in advance.

Sarahsaver how did you manage that?

I am waiting for them to ring me- but will ring them in morning if nothing tonight.

Ok it was not loads, but that stuff would have put us through till next week.
It was due at about 6pm and at the time I was a single parent with 3 small children, the delivery included some pullups for ds 1 and 2, and other essential items. I calmly and clearly told them how much inconvenience they caused me and that I had to go out to the shop in the evening and buy some of the things I needed which should have been in my delivery, so I would have ended up out of pocket otherwise.

Having a good week, tonight had lasagne made from some bolognese sauce I froze last week, and homemade cake and custard for dessert, the organic veg comes tomorrow. Made a loaf of bread today too. I had a few quid leftover (would have not got up to £30 spent by tomorrow) so I got things which would last the next couple of weeks too, porridge, muesli, dried beans (69p for 500g), vinegar, cereal, and still have a little bit left (couple of quid) so I will buy the house a present perhaps;)

BTW my budget is for 3 children and 2 adults.

Went shopping today at Tesco (should've been tomorrow but the children just don't stop munching, cupboards bare) went armed with a shopping list, took £50 out of ATM (cash only transactions these days) and had to take the kids as well.

Managed to overspend by 13 pence.
Was lucky I had a solitary 20p coin lurking in my purse-how embarressing would that have been!!

So week one of the challenge and I've failed already:rolleyes:

    Fingers crossed for everyone else

PS_My challenge is £50 pw for 2 adults and 2 children

Ahh! I have to buy a new quilt this week, I walked into the bedroom to find my naughty dog pulling the stuffing out of my quilt!:rotfl:

Do I have to add a new quilt onto grocery bill? I wouldn't have bought a new one otherwise! Would it be cheating to not add it?
