Funny that, as NOW you have 2 children and the law(?) which nobody has ever heard of apparently forces you to have a 3 bed house. Yet you object to the OP having one more bedroom than you for their two extra children.

    Isn't that just hypocrisy???
I assume Fiver has 1 child of each sex where the law seems to say a bedroom each from age 12.

The OP is fully entitled to 4 bedrooms if he/she wants - the question is why should HB fund it?

    Hi All,
Ill try to keep this brief. I receive housing benefit (£170/month.).I'm renting privately and received notice that the landlord wants to sell house which wasnt too suprising as its been on market. I really need a 4 bed house with 4 kids (one infant) so it kind of limits my choice as to house/rent/area etc.
Anyhow my question is this - If I rent a house that has a higher rent per month could I request/expect the HB to increase accordingly? (No other change of circumstances otherwise)
    thank you
    Richard :)

Yes and no, they'll up the rent but they have a limit they'll go to in each set of circumstances. You can find out how much this is by asking your local council HB office to tell you the maxiumum rent they will consider in full or part. They try not to, so you have to push it, but they will give you a figure if you keep stating you need to know to go house hunting.
