Having the children you can provide for by your own efforts is not treating them as commodities; having children to increase your benefits and tax credits is.

So if a society is forced upon us, that ensures that a person cannot own their own home without saving a 10% (minumum) deposit for a house 10times their salary, you expect young couple getting together to do what exactly?

The self-righteous brigade normally resort to spell checking your posts when they can't answer the questions.

Excuse me - it was WWH who tried to correct MY spelling!

If I've changed the spelling in any way, I'm most sorry as it was not my intention. I'm much happier debating the issue rather than typos, of which I make plenty.

Same here, I will just keep quiet regarding spellings n grammar..

I know. I've seen the spelling Nazis at work before. I'll say it loud, and I'll say it proud. My typing is rubbish, my spelling is rubbish, but not so bad that you can't read the point I'm making.

At least we agree on something ;)

I detest the idiotic mentality of the Nazi grammar police.

Having children is a lifestyle choice and, like all lifestyle choices they should be planned for as much as possible. Before reliable contraception became available that could be difficult but for the last 40 years I think that most sensible people have planned in this way.

The only 100% reliable form of contraception is abstinence as far as I'm aware.
Lifestyle choice? That also sounds like having children is the same as choosing a car or deciding to live in a certain area.

There's no reason why people can't have children when living in rented accommodation - my parents never owned their own home and we managed perfectly well, although they had to work hard to do it.

I'll say this once.... loud and clear. My INTENTION was not to correct your spelling. If I did, it was done IN ERROR. I am the last person to be in any possition to do so. Now, can we please move on.

    There is actually.

They are (a) often paying rents equivilant to a mortgage of 10x their annual salary anyway.
    (b) they often only have shorthold tenancies of 6 months. Did your parents have to move every six months with young children? I did, when I rented privately.
    (c) did they have a sense of security in their 6 month tenancy, to enable a secure environment to raise children?

There are 2,000,000 more bedrooms in this country, than people. Why on earth are you supporting a system that ensures the poorest of people do not have access to affordable housing, in favour of landlord and corporate profit?
