PayPal charges

Hello...I was just wondering. I am new as a seller and I had to upgrade my PayPal to business as before I could not accept some payment made with credit cards, echeque...however this is quite costly as since then they are charging every single transactions 3.4% +20p....

This does not seem much but between Ebay and Paypal you are loosing lots of money...I am wondering there is anyway I could not pay this charges every single time?!?!

Do I have to open another PayPal account or something like that...they are charging this even if the client paid by bank account...

There are other less costly payments I could accept from buyers...It seems now I have no choice but loose 3.4% +20p everytime someone is paying me...

You need to accept credit card payments if you accept paypal on eBay, which means you have to pay the fee each time.

If you are selling on ebay and tick the 'I accept paypal' you must be able to accept all payments and therefore need a premier account.

If you only have a basic account then the only safe method of accepting payment without triggering the upgrade is by a transfer from an existing paypal balance, and very few people keep money in their accounts. It isn't only debit or credit cards that trigger the upgrade sometimes a bank transfer can trigger the upgrade warning if there is bank card associated with that account.

Realistically though for selling on ebay you will have to use a premier account and pay charges each time, just factor those charges into your profit calculation when deciding on a starting price for your item.

i have seen paypal really eat some of my profits..cant believe there charges!

I suppose one should ask people to pay by cheque as preferred payment method....only down side is you have to give out your address and wait a few days.

I tell buyers that my preferred method is bankt transfer. Quicker than a cheque... and cheaper than paypal.

Buyers don't tend to use it often though... but at least you're allowing them the option.

Someone paid me by BT about a year ago... he never left feedback but I didn't chase it. Just before Christmas I got a mystery £300 transferred to my account... I recognised the name and checked my emails, and it turned out to be the same guy. Being a nice, honest person, and hoping that by letting him know of the error quickly, he'd leave me nice feedback, I emailed him...

He emailed back, not particularly gobsmacked by the large sum of money he'd accidentally paid me, saying that he'd been meaning to contact me... one of the discs he'd bought from me was missing from its case! I dug around for a while... found the disc.... sent it on with an apology... paid the money back to him...

...and never got any feedback! :rotfl:

If you have more than one bank account and more than e-mail address, you can have more than one Paypal account (afaik this is still true). I've also heard of someone having 2 Paypal accounts with one bank a/c, but others have said this isn't allowed, so maybe the rules have changed at some point.

If you have two paypal accounts you still have to nominate one for ebay, and run into the problem of charges again as you would need to use the premier one and therefore pay fees.

I do also have a basic paypal account but only to accept my Quidco payments and both my accounts have completely different bank details.

Are you saying that Quidco payments incur a charge? Quidco said this was the 'free' option so I was lulled into a false sense of security!

It isn't the payment that incurs the charge it is the account receiving them. Therefore if you have a premier account and receive a Quidco payment you will be charged, if you have a basic account then you won't be charged as Quidco send the payment by a non chargeable method.
