If you just want a standard spec car that is in stock you should be able to get a sizeable discount on retail but if you want some extras you would probably have to wait a couple of months and pay a premium.

I agree, but I would say the majority of cars purchased(including company cars and leases) your average car is usually purchased in a standard format but of a derivative spec (LE, SE LUX etc what ever the manufacturer does)
People will wait longer if they want it a bit special, but you done see many spec'ed up standard cars (modeos, astras, focus etc) if you look over the second hand market.
I would say less than 1 in 10 (a lot less) mainstream cars have factory fitted upgrades.

I would agree that a lot of company cars are standard spec, but what sort of % of cars are company cars?

I would have thought not much more than 50% and at the moment a lot of companies are just extending their leases to 4 or 5 years rather than getting new cars, half the problem is that companies don't want to get new cars and then have to lay off the staff leaving them with a lease on a car that is not being used.

You should see the car park at Heathrow where my Brother works there must be at least 15 cars where the employees have been made redundant and the cars are just sitting there waiting for the lease to expire, these are mostly Audis and VW's even a fully loaded A6.

It seems such a waste as the lease company are going to get a nice low mileage vehicle that should have 60,000 miles and be worth say £8K but in reality they have 20,000 and are worth substantially more.

    I would say about that,

But then don't forget you have to add al the cheaper cars also, not many full leather kia picanto's :)

After choosing a trim level most still do not go for factory extras.

It usually works out cheaper purchasing a higher trim level than upgrading a lower trim to spec with factory fitted extras.

I don't get a choice of trims, extras or anything else....I have to make do with what other people have chosen as extras!

Mind you, my youngest car was 7 years old...my current car is 17 years old (£461 bargain from ebay 3 years ago).

My dream is to get one which is 00 reg....
We made it! All three boys have graduated, it's been hard work but it shows there is a possibility of a chance of normal (ish) life after a diagnosis (or two) of ASD. It's not been the easiest route but I am so glad I ignored everything and everyone and did my own therapies with them.
Eldests' EDS diagnosis 4.5.10, mine 13.1.11 eekk - now having fun and games as a wheelchair user.
