I thought everyone was going to stop buying cars after the scrappage scheme?

All really good news - newer cars are so much better for the environment (generally).

If people aren't spending their hard earned on houses, the're spending it on cars.

That would depend on how many orders were put through in February & March. And I believe scrappage scheme orders were down considerably come the end of it.

    No cigar :p

Orders down 92% GD got a link.

Why were all orders not down by similar?

You make me laugh, another big fail.:)

    Edit,
Also GD if they did take 2-3 months to get a car and sales had tailed off as much had you said it has it would mean sales are higher now than with out the scrappage scheme.
So you agree sales are increasing without the scrappage scheme, as per my original point before the frothing. Cheers. :)

Fleet sales up 16% on a year earlier. Seems the SMMT doesn't expect the sales buoyancy to continue throughtout the remainder of 2010.

But is it any cheaper buying with the scappage scheme than just buying from a car supermarket? I suspect not.

Read above post GD the maths do not support the average car taking 2-3 months.

I know thats not your strong point but use a bit of logic this time and admit you are flogging a dead horse trying to prove a very poor point.:p

We have just bought a new Audi, it took 1 week from 1st showroom visit to collecting the car.

re delays...a friend of mine just bought a new car a month and a half ago. she was frustrated the garage she bought from previously were suggesting a delay until late autumn. So.....she went to another dealer who had what she wanted in stock/ delivered within a couple of weeks. Its a black car. :)

I think the delay stated like GD'd dads Nissan are stated by sales people to get them to commit there and then.

"If you leave it until next week, it will take longer sir, honest"

My mate had a AUDI S4 quattro that was built to spec with lots of add ons and had to go to a specialist company to have DVD player screens into in the rear headrests.
Even that took just over 2 months.

I think the 2-3 months stated by some here are far from the norm as personaly I do not know anyone who as waited 3 months for a car TBH.

I have no idea : never bought new. My dad's car this year (nissan) took a few weeks.....about 5 or six? My friends was...past black this is a stretch for me.....um....VW. Pretty sure. They came in black, right?

edit; just remembered my dad was oing o get a nissan from the same dealership family as my friends vw was coming from....and they were rubbish about times too, (his last car was a third make, same dealership family) so he didn't and went to a different garage for the 6 weeks and he hopes, better service.

Anyway...just off to borrow daddy's car now. :)

When I purchased my A3 it took 3 months for delivery, I did ask for a few options though:)

My neighbour has just purchased a new polo and she had to wait 7 weeks, she got quite a few options as well.

If you just want a standard spec car that is in stock you should be able to get a sizeable discount on retail but if you want some extras you would probably have to wait a couple of months and pay a premium.
