Buyer says I sent them a damaged item

Our entire police force is 5 policemen. They really aren't going to be bothered with this and as nothing will ever be done about it I don't see the point either.
I will not be posting pics as I don't know if the buyer uses this site.
I am going to take ribboninthesky's advice and tell them straight. I have already contacted ebay and they have issued a warning to this buyer. If they try a charge back, let them. I'll drag it out as long as possible.
Fraudulent buyers like this ruin ebay for everyone.
I've been using ebay since January 2000 and this is the first time I've had a problem like this but I suppose it had to happen sometime.0 -
If you are 100% sure that the book they are sending you pics of isn't the book you sent them I'd tell them so.
I'd say something like......"I have looked carefully at the pictures I took of the book when listing and the pictures you sent me and it would seem that the book you have sent me pictures of isn't the same one I mailed out to you. I therefore believe that no refund is due to you."
DON'T send them copies of the pics you originally took as they can then just damage the book further to make it match.
Hubby had a similar problem once. Told the buyer that he would send the cost of p+p for them to return it and once he received the item if it was damaged then the buyer would get a full refund. We never heard from them again. They wanted to keep the item and get a full refund.:heart2: Love isn't finding someone you can live with. It's finding someone you can't live without :heart2:0 -

You can be sure of 2 things, if no one complains about the poilce they will never improve (the police have been complained about for decades and they are massively improved today as a result, compared to what they used to be like).
and if no one reports crimes (and insists on crime numbers) then the crime rates in our country will never be accurate. And criminals such as this buyer will just continue to do crime unabated.
In both cases by not reporting people are doing our country a dis-service.0 -

Yes but if the police choose to ignore you what can you do?
The time and money and phone calls it would take to get the police to investigate the OP's case, would far outweigh the cost of losing £9.99.
I have been threatened before by someone claiming they had a knife and would stab me. I was trying to stop a friend from being mugged.
The police said that because the guy had not actually pulled a knife and had not taken anything off of me they could do nothing.
This was despite me being able to find out where he lived as my friend recognised the people with him.
Now I didn't pursue the matter as my friend was the one mugged and he wanted to drop it.
This gives me absolutely NO faith in the police.
But in the future if I am mugged and I knew where the muggers accomplices live, I would be tempted to pay them a little 'visit'. I probably would not bother with the police anymore as they would just 'stick it on the pile' if I reported the mugging and do nothing about it.
Why should I risk being arrested for trying to get my property back?
Why does the OP have to chase them to investigate a crime? :mad:If freedom is outlawed, only outlaws will have freedom.0 -
You make an official complaintPrint_Screen wrote:Yes but if the police choose to ignore you what can you do?
That's not the point is it, the point is to be as obstinate and determined as possible to get the police to sit up and take notice of a crime, the evidence is on the OP's computer. A crime has been committed here. The time and money and phone calls it would take to get the police to investigate the OP's case, would far outweigh the cost of losing £9.99.
I believe to threaten someone is illegal, what you should have done was ask the cop is it not illegal to threaten someon, ask for his superior officer, ask for them to put it in writing to you, if you were not happy you could have made a complaint. but as you say your friend wanted you to drop it.
Lots of people complaining aboute how carp the police are (including me) but not many people prepared to DO SOMETHING about it.
And there is the arguement, that unless you do report this ebay crime you can't say whether they will ignore it or not, you have to give them a chance, we all might be pleasantly surprised. I would expect the bare minimum would be a police visit to this person to take a statement, put the willies up them if nothing else.0 -
Personally I would get them to send back (their copy) and say you will dael with it. Don't get too argumentative at this stage. You have photographic proof don't give them the opportunity to replicate the nicks etc.
Added bonus it will cost him money to send it back and with a bit of luck he won't use recorded either.
I am currently being threatened with court action over an item I sold took me months and when I got it back they had immersed it in water (elecctrical item) which obviously the manufacturer says is not covered by the warranty.
You have to play the game with these jokers or they will take you to the cleaners!!0 -
The buyer who says I sent him a knackered book bought a selection of books including my title the day before he purchased mine. The auction states that some of the book have identical spine damage that he is saying occurred on my book. Odd or what?
