welsh translation could save me a fortune ;)

Hi everyone

I have a friend who's first language is welsh. She's feeling a bit low and home sick at the moment (she's been living outside wales for about 5 years now) and I would love to be able to wish her happy birthday in welsh.

I know it's really hard to teach someone to say something in writing, but any attempts would be appreciated. Or if all else fails I could at least write it in her birthday card.

As for the money saving bit, I know that a taste of home right now would be worth much more than an expensive present, or getting her drunk which was the other idea I had for cheering her up LOL

thanks in advance for anyone who can help :)

I hope you have a very happy birthday.

its the pronunciation bit that's going to be the problem though

    Thank you ben :D

the red w is that kind of silent but not quite (iykwim) or more pronounced (I have heard her speak welsh before but I am ashamed to say I never took that much notice)

(sorry languages has never been my strong point)

to try and get the pronounciation correct if difficult try saying buloid and gradually contract the first syllable to get the desired bwl

there are some really nice picture books about wales at the mo. jamie owen's welsh journeys was a really popular series, which now has a book and a dvd.

perhaps something like this would be nice as a taste of home?

or if you are much of a cook, i can point you in the direction of a welsh cake recipe

I'd say "pen-bloy-th happis" with the "th" as in "the" rather than "thin".
