I would pay off Westcot so that is gone once and for all. You can then add your payment to the credit cards and get them paid off that little bit earlier.
That's a good idea about the basic bank account.
My OH and I pay 50:50 too, even though I earn more than him. He wouldn't have it any other way. That is just for the mortgage and bills. Food and other stuff we split as we feel like it."Good financial planning is about not spending money on things that add no value to your life in order to have more money for the things that do". We're going to split both the household bills and car running costs, and each keep our own payment things seperate. So I'm paying my debts from my spare money and he's paying for his CSA and nicotine habit from his. This means I will be able to pay off more each month so should have both those two debts gone in 3 months (4 at the outside *crosses fingers*).
Last night we also discussed how he can save money on his smoking (other than quitting completely which he's not ready to do yet). He's agreed to cut down to smoking up to 10 cigarettes a day while he's out at work, and only smoking roll-ups at home, which should save him about £80 a month::: Total Paid Since LBM (27/05/10): £4639.85 Official Debt Gone!! :T ::::AThat money talks, I don't deny, I heard it once, it said "Goodbye"~ VSP2011: #104 ~

This morning started off badly. Someone managed to knock my coffee over and it went all over my diary - not impressed. Then I found out it was "dress-down day" at work and no one had told me, so I was about the only one in the building that was dressed in office stuff. Felt really annoyed about that to be honest. The decision was made after I'd gone home yesterday but no one from my department contacted me to let me know
The day did get better though.
Went to the supermarket this evening to get one or two bits for making cakes this weekend, and ended up spending nearly £20 in Tesco! I did get one or two bits for food for next week too though so not all bad. They wanted a scandalous £7 for a loaf tin which I needed for my baking tonight, so I went round to Home Bargains* on the retail park and got a silicon version for only £1.99
Having a try at this cake tonight: http://www.blottedcopybook.co.uk/weetabix-loaf/
It's in the loaf tin waiting for the oven to be free so I can put it in to bake. Will update with the results later on
(* They also have 12pk of condoms in there for only £1.49 so got one or two boxesour bargain of the month
)

Sorry your morning started off so badly. Glad the day got better though!
I've heard about the weetabix cake before and have been tempted to try it, I'll be interested to hear how you get on. Love the bargains!
I counted out the bags of change that were lying around this evening, so I will 'buy' them off my DH (the money belongs to him and his brother). That's another £8.75 to my coke bottle. I did check the 1ps but although there were loads from the 1970s there was not a 1972 one. Sorry! Maybe that was a rare year or something..."Good financial planning is about not spending money on things that add no value to your life in order to have more money for the things that do". Weetabix cake went down well with OH last night. He gave it 8.5/10
Not bad for my first attempt at it.
I was quite pleased with it too. Making another one today, ready for my dad and stepmumAlso making fairy cakes and a chocolate victoria sponge cake. Some serious baking on the way.

I never explained why things got better yesterday afternoon, did I?
I rang up Severn Trent and explained my situation to the guy on the phone re the CCJ. I found out that they have it on record that I moved out in Mar 2006 (I thought Feb but close enough - it was four years ago!), and they did have my forwarding address logged at that time. However, the final bill was not calculated until Dec 2006 - 9 months later! No wonder I didn't get it or know anything about it! He said he's passed it on to the credit management team, who might be able to refund the additional court costs of around £60. But I was thinking, if it is their mistake and the final bill wasn't sent when it should have been (i.e. March), and if it had of been sent then I would have paid and wouldn't have a CCJ, could I get the CCJ removed and claim all my court costs back from them? Don't mind paying what I owe, but don't want to pay extra for something that wasn't even my fault! Going to ring CCCS again with this little conundrum now
Edit: CCCS not open on Saturdays... Rang National Debtline instead. They have said that I could apply to get the CCJ set aside, but there will be a fee to pay... I've got to read through their factsheet on the website and see if it sounds like something I want to do. I think I could have a case for it, but it's whether the judge would think the same.
Edit 2: Also rang Consumer Direct (advised to write complaint letter to ST and to ring CCfW -->), and Consumer Council for Water (only open Mon-Fri) so hit a bit of brick wall til Monday. Going to try and write a clear explanation of what has happened and complain why the bill wasn't sent when it should have been.::: Total Paid Since LBM (27/05/10): £4639.85 Official Debt Gone!! :T ::::AThat money talks, I don't deny, I heard it once, it said "Goodbye"~ VSP2011: #104 ~

Stressful day!!
Had my ex on the phone saying he won't send any proof of address to the solicitor for the house sale! His new girlfriend, who he got with not long after leaving me 3 years ago, doesn't know that he's been back in contact with me about the house, and he says that she will break up with him if she knows. I find that hard to believe to be honest - she's late 30's (I think), he's 36, and they have a 3 year relationship - I'd like to think that she would be more mature than that considering the contact with me has only been about the mortgage. She's more likely to be upset about the sneaking around and not telling her he's doing it though. It annoys me that he still seems to be so childish and immature.
He said to me today "just tell them to take my name off it, I don't want anymore to do with it". Like I haven't been trying to do that for the past 3 years?! He seems to think that I can just scribble his name out and that's that! He's living in a childish little world where solicitors and legal paperwork just don't seem to exist...
// rant
And to top it off after that conversation, I have my mum phoning me asking me to sort out her pc... it went something like this:
"It won't let me on the internet and comes up with a message to contact customer support"
"So did you ring them to find out if they can help?"
"No, can you have a look at it tomorrow instead?"
GRARRRRGGHHHHHH!!!! Yes I know a bit about computers, yes I do programming as my day job, but NO! I am not your 24/7 free computer support line! Maybe I should start charging her the going rate and see if she stops then!
Support costs (per hour):
Additional Labour (Remote) £30.00 (Planned Working Hours)
Additional Labour (Onsite) £40.00 (Planned Working Hours)
Additional Labour £50.00 (Unplanned Anti-Social Hours)
Tomorrows a sunday, so I guess that would class as unplanned anti-social hours so I could make £50 an hour! Or at the very least onsite labour is £40 an hour! I could pay off my credit card in one day
I sound harsh, but I'm seeing her tomorrow because it's my nephews birthday. I'm going to his party, so rather than just letting me enjoy the day, she's going to bring her laptop there for me to fix when she's the one that's broken it! And it's not just once or twice, it's every single time I see her I have to do something for her. It's not like going round my dad's where I can just go round and have a cup of tea and a chat... going to my mum's, she's either asking me to fix her laptop, or she's asking OH to do odd-jobs that her own OH won't do... not occasionally, I wouldn't mind that, but EVERY. SINGLE. TIME!! :mad: She puts me on a guilt trip if I try to tell her "no", and then has the cheek to wonder why I don't like going round to visit her.

The weetabix cake looks good! I might try making it sometime.
That would be fantastic if they could get your CCJ removed, it sounds ridiculous that it is blatantly their fault and yet you are paying the price (literally!) Keep fighting for it.
I'm sorry for being blunt, but your ex sounds like a complete idiot! If it was that easy to change names on a mortgage people would be being defrauded all the time! Surely his new partner knows he's got a mortgage with you and he could be telling her he wants to completely break all ties with you!
I understand how you feel about your mum, I work in waste and whenever I meet up with people there is always someone who wants to complain about their rubbish! I like to leave work at work and have a break when I'm not there, not try and solve everyone's problems!"Good financial planning is about not spending money on things that add no value to your life in order to have more money for the things that do".
